Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Inspecting the wheel after the accident, I noticed that the alloy had a crack in it and I'm convinced that this was because it had been damaged in one of the pot holes....and caused the tyre to go (rather than the other way around).
Leading evidence: 'Replace condenser' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'michelins...i had pirelli rosso n4' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Inspect wheel' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Well hey came good...new tyres fitted very carefully- no damage, careful jacking and used a torque wrench...

I am not sure if this is due to the Michelins...I had Pirelli Rosso N4 before..

I'm considering using the jack that comes in the front of the car and swapping them myself (and obviously tightening them again after 50 miles!!!).
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Virtually no difference in ride quality and no tamlining.
Just ordred
2x 225/40/18 MPS N1
2x 285/30/18 MPS N1
from KwiK Fit. best price i was getting was £780 from most of the usual players (event, black circles, elite etc). KWF beat this
Just have to watch them like a hawk when they are jacking and fitting the tyres etc

The Michelins are fabulous- very compiant and superb steering- understeers less than the Pirelli Rosso N4 (these were on my 17" alloys)
So did you upgrade from 17 to 18" on your 996?
If so, could you please comment on the ride difference and the type of roads you drive on? Also, what sort of 18" wheels did you go for?
I've got my 5 spoke Carerra II's coming next week (upgrading my 17"), but have reservations about the state of the roads and the subsequent loss of rubber cushion.
Moving to 18s will definitely worsen the ride, but not by a huge amount, but it'll be there. Put it this way, if the current ride is just acceptable, the 18s may tip it the wrong way. If you can tolerate it a bit firmer you might be ok.
Thanks for the reply.
My 996 seems to rattle quite a bit over the roads. I'm concerned that this is going to get worse and is going to more rapidly deteriorate the suspension. My front arm has already been damaged in about 6 months (although, this could just be general wear and tear).
I'm more than happy to go have a harder ride, but I'm trying to gauge by roughly how much.
By comparison, my 3 series had 18" and the ride was slightly rougher, but acceptable.....however, I blew a tyre and wrecked the 18" alloy. Inspecting the wheel after the accident, I noticed that the alloy had a crack in it and I'm convinced that this was because it had been damaged in one of the pot holes....and caused the tyre to go (rather than the other way around).
If anyone on the fourm is from the Guildford area, they'll know what I mean about the roads!
Hi
Yes, I've gone from 17" to 18" Carreras (genuine) and I am amazed. Virtually no difference in ride quality and no tamlining. I am not sure if this is due to the Michelins...I had Pirelli Rosso N4 before..
One thing I did not is that the genuine wheels are very light compared to replicas. You may get a worse ride if your new wheels are not OE
Final thought. I once had a Boxster with MO30 spuspenion and 18" wheels...it was truley awful to drive. So if you have sports suspension beware of upgrade
Hi, thanks for the offer TB. I've discovered it's quite hard to compare the ride when going from car to car, as the set up is slightly different...but thank you for the offer!
So you must live Woking way?
A-ha, that's what I was looking for!!
Sounds like you've done exactly the same upgrade that I'm going to do. Genuine Carrera IIs or IIIs? eg 996 or 997 spec?
Out of interest, where did you get them from and if you don't mind, how much did you pay for them please? Did you do the swap yourself?
I'm considering using the jack that comes in the front of the car and swapping them myself (and obviously tightening them again after 50 miles!!!).
Cheers,
GD
