The clutch etc reads to me as being a totally separate issue to their not correcting the clunk from the front end, however telling you they had corrected said clunk is poor form, especially when the cause was so easily resolvable.
Leading evidence: 'so easily resolvable' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'so easily resolvable' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend independent or opc' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

My RMS needs done but the specialist I use said to leave it until the clutch needs done - I assume it's obvious, is it?

I don't have an issue with the Clutch and drive shaft as it proberley did need it, it was the fact that I went in to repair a clunking sound, they totally mis-diagnosed it and promised it was all sorted,(after fitting the clutch and shaft) then when I pointed out it wasn't, they conclued it was the differential and wanted me to shell out for a second hand diff box and fitting, and that would have been another £1200, when all along it was the brake pads.

if you believe you have been ripped off and that you don't think that the clutch and/or drive shaft needed replacing, maybe you should take this up with your credit card company and see if they can tackle the garage.

Went to an Official Porsche Dealer and asked them to look at it, within five minutes they diagnosed it to be ill fitting front brake pads, and total cost to replace sub £200.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

We can all make mistakes, but its the way you deal with them, I was not asking for any refund and made that very clear, if it needed a clutch so be it, my issue was the misdiagnoses, and the fact he was quite prepared to have me pay another £1200 to fit a differential and then what would had he said.....
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Porsche 911 Carrera 4 2004 model
I recently called into TWG of Peterborough (
www.twgsport.co.uk
) I was experiencing a clunking sound, the sound was coming from the front when I depressed my brake.
On my first visit to TWG they took a close look at the car, but while looking they suggested my clutch was stiff and I needed a new one, they recommended that while they had the clutch out they could have a look at what the clunking sound was.
Booked the car in to replace clutch and sort out the clunking noise. When I picked the car up, the fitter said that the clunking has been sorted as they had to replace the clutch and the drive shaft; 'all was clear" and duly billed me for £1200.
I drove the car away assuming all was OK, but within a few miles I noticed the clunking was as clear as ever and they hadn't sorted it out,
Went back to TWG and had discussion with Mark the owner, he wouldn't budge and stated that it needed the clutch and drive shaft, But yes the sound was still there, so what did I pay for?
He then suggested it may be the differential gear box, and said he could probably get one from salvage for about £600 and approx £500 to fit. I hesitated and thought I would get a second opinion.
Went to an Official Porsche Dealer and asked them to look at it, within five minutes they diagnosed it to be ill fitting front brake pads, and total cost to replace sub £200.
Moral of the story, use a recommended independent or OPC
Sorry to hear that .. especially as I use them
and had no problems to date.

Personally I don't whole heartedly agree with your 'morel of the story' but given your recent experience entirely understand it being your conclusion.
Sorry you got ripped off mate. One of the virtues of this web site is to share experiences with fellow members. Perhaps the owner will reflect on his attitude when sales drop off.
Anway, thanks for sharing your experiences with us!
There are 3 tell tale signs, all noticeable depending on how worn the clutch is:
1) Heavier clutch than standard
2) Bite point is very high (nb, this is the opposite to most normal manual cars where a worn clutch = low bite point)
3) Clutch slippage whilst in gear

I just felt had he should have showed some responsability for getting it wrong.
if you believe you have been ripped off and that you don't think that the clutch and/or drive shaft needed replacing, maybe you should take this up with your credit card company and see if they can tackle the garage. I would hate to have spent over a grand and then find out it didnt fix what I wanted.
Hi Triff
Thanks for your comment,
I don't have an issue with the Clutch and drive shaft as it proberley did need it, it was the fact that I went in to repair a clunking sound, they totally mis-diagnosed it and promised it was all sorted,(after fitting the clutch and shaft) then when I pointed out it wasn't, they conclued it was the differential and wanted me to shell out for a second hand diff box and fitting, and that would have been another £1200, when all along it was the brake pads.
Had I not sought a second opinion, I would have had to shell out for parts and labour and still not have the problem sorted..
My concern was with there attitude, and total lack of skill in identifying a simple problem which was diaganosed by OPC within 5 mins.
