Hi Steve, I'd be very surprised if you could get an extra 45bhp - (15% increase on a NA ??) or even a combination of headers, plenum, induction and remap - more likely a 5 -10% increase with all the aforementioned at most.

Leading evidence: '5 -10% increase' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '5 -10% increase' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had the geometry done on the C2 today. What a difference. The car feels far more planted and less nervous. I couldn`t believe it. Anyway, while I was there, AAD in Doncaster, I was talking to the guy that owns the place and he mentioned that they do remapping for the 996. For the sum of £700 he reckoned he could get an extra 45 brake horsepower ! This seems quite a lot for the money and I was just wondering if anyone had done it already and what improvements thay had seen. He has also just invested heavily in a four wheel drive rolling road and said that he would do £35 per car if there was 20 cars. Seemed cheap enough, so if anyone is interested, let me know Steve

POST 2Original post

Who are AAD if you don't mind me asking? Insofar as remapping is concerned I can only go on experience with my 997 C2S and IMO the remap that I had from DMS wasn't brilliant. It feels different yes, but whether or not I got the quoted 20-23bhp is open to debate. 45 bhp increase IMO seems very high for a NA engine. :nooo:

POST 3Original post

I'd have thought that the only way you would see anything close to an extra 45bhp from a re-map is if it was done in conjunction with exhaust and induction modifications, and even then I'd be very surprised. Something worth bearing in mind when increased bhp figures are quoted either by a remap, chip or whatever is where and how that extra power is delivered, if the extra (peak) bhp is measured at 8750rpm it's not a lot of use to you in the real world ...

Advanced Auto Developments The guy is heavily into TVR`s actually and has aimed at that market but knows his stuff on Porsche and sells full suspension kits and the like. Nice guy Steve

One thing that a map does do, is it makes the car 'feel' more responsive, If as suggested you have this done in conjunction with an induction kit (ie K&N or EVOMS) then you get the aural effect too. £700 sounds steep to me, you could get an induction kit plus remap for that amount if you shopped around - Simon

POST 6Original post

i would be interested in getting involved in a group remapping session, but yeah 45 hp from a remap alone is ***** , even if you did all the breathing mods at the same time you wouldnt get this.

POST 7Original post

TVR engineering and Porsche engineering are generally at opposite ends of the auto-engineering spectrum :hand: I'm not sure selling full [3rd party] suspension kits qualifies him as a Porsche remapping specialist, but hey ho... And anyone on mapping TVRs... TVRs are notorious for not making their claimed power outputs. Back on topic, a 45hp increase is possible on the Mk1 GT3 engine via the K400. But whether it's possible on a standard 996 is another question, and whether it's done with the same components or engineering rigour and remapping as the K400 is questionable.
