They used 3 litres and flushed the entire system but didn't know that included the ABS and clutch systems.
Leading evidence: 'Use 3 litres and flushed the entire system' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check tonight' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
If you do go for the brake fluid change (either OEM/SRF), it may be more viable to get indy to do it and the savings may cover the cost of the SRF.

Suggestion
For the relatively small price differential between SRF and other brake fluids, and the infrequency which you change brake fluid, is it worth skimping on giving your car the best possible on something as important as your braking system?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ok, before anyone says it, I did search but couldn't quite answer my query.
I'm having my 24k service done this week which includes brake fluid change as it's been 2 years since the last one. I noticed alot of you guys who track or drive hard use Castrol SRF. Is this over kill to supply this to OPC for my service seeing as I've got a NA 996? I do plan on doing a few track days and have a big Euro trip planned too.
If I do supply the fluid how much do I need for a complete system bleed?
Thanks.
SRF is the best brake fluid bar none.

--> Just get SRF. It's worth it for peace of mind if nothing else.
If you decide to go for the SRF, I believe the brake fluid needs to be changed every year (and not once every 2 years as per OPC recc for the general DOT brake fluid).
From reading other threads, there are some reports of increased wear on the brake callipers (not sure if this applies to porkers, info on non-porker based site).
Porsche uses DOT 4 brake fluid (not sure of the oem brand), SRF is DOT 5.1
You may need 1-2 litres for the brake fluid but keeping in mind the existing non-SRF fluid, this will need to be fully flushed (as contamination causes the temperature to further lower), thus you may need upto 4 litres worth (can someone confirm as I am not sure of the exact amount).
There difference in the DOT specification is as follows:
DOT 4- 446F(D), 311F (W)
DOT 5(.1?)- 500 (D) 356F (W)
(D)Dry Boiling point, deg F (minimum)
(W)Wet boiling point, deg F (minimum)
The SRF exceeds the DOT 5 standard as follows:
Dry 590F
Wet 518F

Thanks guys, going to speak with the OPC tech guys to get an exact amount. I've only ordered 2 litres and trying to get hold of the stuff is pretty hard, demontweaks is about the only people with it in stock... May have to put that plan on hold for the time being...
It's a time factor though, I have to get tyres fitted in the morning, then things to do in the afternon then drop the car off at the OPC, getting up and back from JZM would take too long. In the end I just ordered more form demontweaks for next day delivery before 10am. 4 litres of SRF has turned out pretty damn expensive!
Hi Stuart. How did it go with this? Did they bleed the ABS and clutch too? How much did it cost altogether and was there any tangible difference in the feel of the brakes?
Hi Ed, I'm not too sure exact cost without looking at the invoice but IIRC it was about £85 not including fluid as I supplied my own. I'll check tonight when I get home though. They only did the brakes as it was part of the major service.
I've yet to experience any difference but then I'd only ever expect to feel it when on track or through prolonged hard driving. In every day driving I'm sure it doesn't make any tangeable difference...
Wondering if the pedals will feel firmer after changing brake fuid after the full 2 years. I guess I'll find out...
From what I've read so far switching from DOT4 to DOT5 means the entire system has to be flushed including the ABS and clutch which are on the same circuit. JZM are quoting me 150+ VAT which sounds similar to your spend if you include 2 litres of SRF.
I'm at Bedford this Saturday so trying to get the brake fluid done before then.
