A clear road

It's only when driving back at this time of night and the roads are clear, that you realise what an incredibly capable car the 996 is. I thought my Boxster was good, but this car is better. It's ability to dart and change direction is stunning. Of course you can track it, but I feel you lose a certain perspective with all that open space.

clear road? :shock: i never seem to find clear roads at any time of day or night in the south east

GD is right by setting off on longer journeys either before 4.00am or after 10.00pm you do get to use your car with greater pleasure. I must say fitting Xenon's helped this when pushing on on the "back roads" Regards Big Bob :bye:

I learned to drive almost exclusively in the dark (lessons after school in the winter) and I have learned to read the bumps and bends from shadows, etc. As a result I can drive much faster at night (especially on public roads where lights coming the other way tell you if you can cut a corner or not :wink: ) and, in my youth, won several 12-car road rallies in cars that should not have won anything at all (e.g. Mums 1300cc Hondamatic Civic!) I also have litronics and they are even better than my 4 Cibie Super-Oscars that I had on my rally car (even with 100 watt bulbs) As the OP said, you really appreciate how good the car is without traffic, and as an ex-rally driver I much prefer the variety and the unknown offered by fast quiet roads, to the track.
