Suggestion

IIRC the bolts are M10 with Nyloc nuts, but check the PET (parts catalogue) which is downloadable from the Porsche GB website.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Ive obtained the Oettle exhaust cans (very quick despatch I have to say) and waiting for new Schnell tips from the US before fitting the lot. I want to make sure I can complete the job once started and Im anticipating new brackets and bolts will be required so might as well have them in place before I start. Can anyone tell me please the numbers and sizes of bolts required and the number and size of brackets please? Links would obviously be even better Oh, and if there are any fitting guides on this or any other site id love to know. Intending to do the work myself as Ive done a few on my Lotus. Thanks in advance Andrew

POST 2Original post

I've just fitted some new Milteks on mine. I would plan about a day to fit depending on how easy your bolts come off. The bottom one on the exhaust hangers has probably welded itself on to the bracket and the front 'suspension' hanger bolt may done the same. If you can get one or the other off then it's easy to grind off the other. You will need clamps for the tips 2@ £9 each from Porsche. I reused my big joining clamps as it was only the bolts that had rusted. Again, you may need to grind off the old bolts to get them off. The clamps are £21 each from Porsche. If you can reuse them, the bolts are square cup M10 & 50mm long. The front hanger bolt is M8 and 80mm long. The 3 small bolts to hang the silencer from if you have to cut them off are M8 20mm. Method is simple. Remove 3 small bolts (13mm) on the hanger. Loosen nuts (16mm)on big joining clamp . Remove back wheel and remove silencer. Remove exhaust hangar (2 x 13mm bolts) and swap across. refit in reverse order with a bit of assembly paste.

POST 3Original post

Don't buy the Porsche mild steel clamps. It's well worth spending the extra and getting some stainless steel ones (about £20 each) If you want to keep it looking good, you'll want to take the tips off regularly to clean them. IIRC the bolts are M10 with Nyloc nuts, but check the PET (parts catalogue) which is downloadable from the Porsche GB website.

POST 4Original post

OPC recently told me my cans are about to burst ( ), so to speak... They also said the heat shield over the cat converter is rusted, so the bolts holding it in place arent fixed firmly anymore and it is rattling. If you are swapping your exhaust on an older car (mine is 8yrs) it might be worth replacing this heat shield thingy as well? OPC quoted me £68 (ex Vat) for new shield, nuts, bolts, exhaust gaskets. I am tempted to try it myself (well, with my brother in law who is mechanical). If I do, will post piccys.
