To be safe I swapped my microswitches last night (found some 3-wire cheapies on amazon), but the ones in the car tested fine as far as I can tell as well.
Leading evidence: 'Replace microswitches last night (found some 3-wire cheapies' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check up wiring at the switch' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking for some guidance on troubleshooting my electric spoiler on my 996.2 Carrera 2. I've made some progress in that the spoiler control light only comes on when the spoiler tries to go up. so far down the rabbit hole a bit so here is what I know:
I removed disassembled and regreased everything in the plastic assembly
The plastic tracks seemed to be uneven so now they are fixed and located correctly for the micro switches
Fuse D7 is good, both relays test good
There is 12v at both relays and I attempted swapping them around
With a power probe from the connector I can manually raise the spoiler
Using the manual switch by the fuse panel, once the spoiler is up from the above step I can lower it just fine
Hitting the right speed or using the manual switch triggers the spoiler control light and the spoiler does not move, nor do I hear any noises from the motor
I'm stuck as where to go next, my gut says the issue is between the raise relay and the connection behind the passenger tail light, but I'm not really sure the best way to access. Any advice or thoughts?
It's the same behavior if I manually jump it, at speed I also get the spoiler control fault when it's trying to raise. Up requests don't seem to send any voltage.
I initially thought this, but after reassembling the down function seems to work and stop correctly (they were misaligned when I initially pulled it apart). Do we know where the "logic" happens from the microswitches? It doesn't even attempt to start when trying to go up.
That's my question too. What tells it when to go up at speed or retract at lower speed? Mine also works fine manually. I get a clicking sound when I slow down. Even if I do not hit extension speed. I have new switches to try.
well mine goes down fine, but won't pop up using either the switch or the right speed driving. Both microswitches tested fine for continuity, but I want to understand where the microswitches come together with the other signals to say yeah raise that spoiler.
Found this in another thread:
To be safe I swapped my microswitches last night (found some 3-wire cheapies on amazon), but the ones in the car tested fine as far as I can tell as well. Still in the same spot it seems, the spoiler won't raise. Maybe I just need a fixed spoiler.
For anyone following along I have to some degree thrown in the towel after another couple of hours troubleshooting. I ordered a used mechanism with harness on ebay for a few hundred bones. I'm not crazy about this solution as I still don't feel I've 100% id'd the root cause, but I guess we'll see and I can at least sell the working bits from mine.
Well after swapping a whole new assembly, I'm back in the same spot. Spoiler will go down, but not up. I dug in a bit more and I can manually trigger the extension relay using a power probe which does raise the spoiler. There seems to be an issue between the switch and the relay (or maybe the cluster?) open to thoughts if anyone has any. Otherwise I think I need to rip out the center console to get to the harness and see what's what.
The extension wire on the switch is green/red, but at the relay it's green/white does anyone know where it splices or transitions over?
Troubleshooting issues like this can be simple or very complicated....
The actual failure once found is always simple....a bad switch, and bad motor or a bad wire/connection .. Since you have tried a new switch and new motor, time to dig out a DVOM and test the integrity of the wiring....
You will need to use a systematic approach...ie.... each next step/test is determined by the results of the previous step/test......
The Spoiler Control Module/Logic is built into the Instrument Cluster to control the " Automatic Function",,, but it does not control the " Manual Function" ...
Right the "logic" is all in the microswitches. I need a full wiring diagram, but the 12v signal that comes from either the manual switch OR the cluster doesn't seem to be making it to the extension microswitch. The microswitch only has 1 common wire so I would think the manual switch and cluster have to merge at some point, this is where I would assume they might have separated or broken or something.
Lots of assumptions, I just need to trace the harness now I think.
I called Durametric only to find that Durametric doesnt service the wing. They were very nice and sent me the same diagram you have.
Does the decision making happen in the inst. cluster or does the cluster gather the speed information and send it to ECM?
The logic is simple: at this speed the spoiler motor spins one direction. The motor changes direction at the other speed set point. There are only two speed set points. Hit 74ish spins to extend. Hit 35ish spins the opposite direction to close.
I had to walk away for a while. I too caught an assembly and now have two different sets of new switches. After I finish installing the stereo upgrade I will work on the wing again. Im following g this. Thanks for posting your frustration. I understsnd.
In my situation I think the speed signal is probably correct, both the manual switch and hitting mid 70s for a bit flash the spoiler control fault and it fails to deploy. If I get off work a little early for good friday I'm going to poke around again, this is a fun one to wrap my head around.
It's an easter miracle! Or a good friday one at least, got off work early and stared at some more schematics. I probed the relay trigger signal from the cluster and behold that wire was kaput somewhere. I partook in some hackjob mechanics because I wasn't a fan of unwrapping and rewrapping the harness from the cluster to relay support #2, spliced in a new 22awg wire the spoiler is working as it should again!
Total cost: $250 (spoiler mechanism from ebay) + $8 microswitches from amazon + $10 in wire = $268 for a working spoiler, let's not concern ourselves with time spent.
