Suggestion

So if you replaced your MAF (air flow sensor) with a Bosch part, rather than the Porsche part, and your engine blew, I suspect it could get ugly.

Suggestion

I have been told that if you renew the warranty when the car is lets say 8 3/4 years then the warranty will still run for another year.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm in the market for a 996 and will be making sure it has an OPC warranty. At what age/mileage will Porsche refuse an OPC warranty renewal? And what modifications am I allowed to carry out without invalidating the warranty? I've seen a warranted car advertised with an aftermarket exhaust. Does it have to be fitted by main dealer? Are there any forms of remaps/chips that are either switchable, or not traceable? Thanks, Adam

POST 2Original post

If I recall correctly, cars older than 9 years, or with mileage greater than 120k, will not be offered an OPC warranty. I'm sure some of the more knowledgeable on the forums will answwer the rest.

POST 3Original post

Warranty is only possible for cars that have less than 9 years or has not exceeded a certain mileage (I think it is 125,000 miles - to be confirmed) - whichever comes first. I have been told that if you renew the warranty when the car is lets say 8 3/4 years then the warranty will still run for another year. What is important is to make sure that the warranty is renewed before the 9th birthday of the car. I am not sure this is true though.

POST 5Original post

I think general consensus is that if you fit a non porsche part and that part could be responsible for an engine failure, then porsche won't honour the warranty. So if you replaced your MAF (air flow sensor) with a Bosch part, rather than the Porsche part, and your engine blew, I suspect it could get ugly. But if you put Textar/Brembo brake pads/discs on your car and your engine blew, there wouldnt be a problem.

POST 6Original post

Porky. PM me your email address and I'll send you a copy of a couple of letters I received from Porsche GB in answer to queries about the warranty and modifications/use.

POST 8Original post

Could I have a pm of that as well please. Many Thanks!!

POST 11Original post

Can't send it by PM, but if you send me your email addys, I'll be happy to do so. Will send them from work on Thursday.
