I had the same problem on my C4s - turned out to be the front wheel bearings.
Leading evidence: 'front wheel bearings' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'front wheel bearings' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check from a shop and see what they say' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Fronts I had changed in 2024 (changed all 4 at the time but rears worn through hence the new rears last year)

At that speed, rear wheels and/or tyres are most probably the source.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all
I am currently experiencing steering shake when on the highway around 70mph+
I changed all the control arms, ball joints, tie rods and ends, arb links and bushes about a year ago. I recently fitted ohlins coilovers too. Had it aligned at a reputable shop also
I thought maybe my front wheels were off balance so had them rebalanced recently. The shop said they were slightly unbalanced and this did improve the feel slightly. Im not sure if they used a Hunter road force machine to balance them as after searching about this issue I saw this was a common solution.
Has anyone experienced similar and what was their solution to it? I am tempted to go to another shop that has this particular machine but wanted to see if theres something really obvious that I may be overlooking
Thanks in advance
At that speed, rear wheels and/or tyres are most probably the source.
Minimising the tyre's radial force variation (which is what a hunter balancing machine can do) is a good next step but perhaps the tyres have flat spots from sitting that no longer dissappear once warm from driving?
If 6y or older consider replacing.
Could the rear tyres make the steering shake? Sorry for the dumb question
Rear tyres are fairly new, less than 6 months old
Fronts I had changed in 2024 (changed all 4 at the time but rears worn through hence the new rears last year)
Im trying to think back before all the suspension/control arm work if I had the steering shake and I think I did
Maybe the front tyres have the flat spot since new?
appreciate your help
Steering wheel shake/vibration = front tire out of balance/
front tire belts separating
/front tire flat spots from sitting to long.
Flat spots usually will smooth out once driven for a while, if tire wasn't left for to long in one spot. If it was, no amount of balance/driving will fix it, need new tires then.
Belt problems, only new tires will fix it.
Shake/vibration in seat/door panels/ arm rests = rear tire problems ^ same problems/fixes as above.
Contrary to popular belief, Suspension parts do not cause constant shake/vibrations at steady speed. they will accentuate/multiply a vibration/shake caused by a tire problem. Maybe a lot in the case of very bad tie rods/very lose bushings. But they do not cause the shake/vib...
You can balance a block of wood, but can't drive on it....
I have a similar problem. My Indy is a really good guy and Porsche tech for many years said all of my wheels are slightly bent and left it at that. He said you can balance a bent wheel but its not gonna make it round. Ive been considering new wheels since he said that.
Bent wheels/rims/mags usually show up under <25mph, as vibration/shake/wobble/bounce.
Out of balance tire/tire flat spotted/tread belt separations, show up over 25mph. usually at higher speeds.
Thank you. Im going get them checked from a shop and see what they say. Its driven daily so its not been standing for long periods of time. Hoping that the wheels arent bent either.
I thought this too but checked for play and all seems fine and dont hear any noise coming from them when driving or when I checked them at each corner
