I could do a search on the forum but I just want some succinct non techno babble advice please.
I want to replace my 2001 16 bit PCM1 with a fully integrated everything thingy. I believe my car has MOST and has the Bose option.
It needs to have
Touch Screen
Post code sat nav with camera location warning
I Pod touch connectivity
Bluetooth telephone using existing phone speakers
Advice, cost and whereabouts can I get it done much appreciated.

I have the Pioneer Avic D3-bti which I am very happy with. However, its not hard drive based (it reads the nav from the DVD when needed) so you cant have the camera location warnings. Pioneer do a hard drive model that has this facility.
Mine has the ipod interface, touch screen, user selectable background screens and button colours, bluetooth etc
Sadly it makes it quite a bit more expensive though - mine was about £800 plus fitting and the Avic HD3BT is about £1500
I didnt think that the extra was worth spending to get the hard drive and camera location stuff (could just buy a road angel for £200 instead).

They did mine and I was pleased with the service and they knew what they were doing too.
Kenwood 7200 has everything you want. The only problem is the speakers as you won't be able to use the Porsche amp. You'll need to get a specialist to hardwire the speakers into the Kenwood amp using crossovers. Matching ipedence is critical to getting a good sound. I looked tathe Pioneer but couldn't be asked to putting the stnav CD in whenever I wanted to navigate anywhere. It also uses a Garmin satnav - heaps better than TomTom!
The most bus isn't worried when the amp and radio are disconneted - OPC and Porsche Germany confirmed this.

Ive got an 02 Targa, with Bose. The car is non MOST, and I fitted the Kenwood unit myself. The plugs on the back of the Porsche head unit were the same as the ones on the Kenwood, so it was as easy as unplugging one and plugging the new unit in.
It was a pain getting the unit to sit nicely, but I got there in the end.
I also installed the optional Bluetooth module, and the Ipod interface. The unit is really nice, and works seamlessly. I even managed to install the speed camera database thats floating about the web :thumb:
Martyn, I stand corrected - didn't realise the Bose included a non most bus amp.
In that case the installation is far more straightforward than the standard porsche amp.

If you want a complete integrated system, I'd go for something like the Pioneer AVIC or Kenwood systems already mentioned. There are quite a few pro car audio installers who will be able to do a good job in ensuring an OEM quality install with the necessary facia plates.

From MY 2003 onwards, ALL Porsches adopted the MOST bus - a fibre optic bus. Previous to this all Porsches used traditional analogue cabling.

Porsche do a bezel so you can locate the aircon controller at the foot of the centre console.

Not exactly true, the MOST bus does log a 'faulty/missing' device, to stop it doing this the items can be removed from the inventory. This is the same as adding a PCM2 or replacing the MOST amp where the item has to be added.
Thanks for all the pointers. I am now looking at a number of options including a guy who was recomended by my OPC who really seemed to know what I wanted and how best to put it in a 996.
I will keep you informed.
