Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I'm guessing the pads weren't replaced by updated ones...
Leading evidence: 'Replace by updated ones' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). All the wear pads were replaced 3 years (15000KMS) ago, would they wear out that fast?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This year the CEL came back and now it was 1531 & 1340 ( Timing Chain out of Position Bank 1) I had my timing checked and everything is where it's supposed to be.
I have a 99 911 and last year I was getting a CEL 1531( Cam Adj Bank 1). I had it checked out, everything came back fine. Both my actuators work. This year the CEL came back and now it was 1531 & 1340 ( Timing Chain out of Position Bank 1) I had my timing checked and everything is where it's supposed to be. The car does not work any different that when the CEL is not on. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas as I'm getting tired of taking my car to garage and spending money on NOTHING... I've spent close to $2000 in the past 2 years and 2 mechanics telling me my car works great and we have no idea why these CEL's are coming up. Maybe a sensor? Computer?
Sure. You have a five chain engine, and the two small chain tensioner wear pads that sit in between the cams have worn to the point that the cam deviation values have exceeded specs.
This is a common problem on early M96 engines and has been written up multiple times, so do a search to learn all about it and how to fix it.
All the wear pads were replaced 3 years (15000KMS) ago, would they wear out that fast? Is this an engine drop if it is the problem? I have tried to find the issue but have not come across it yet. Did you see it on this site do you remember?
I've seen it my shop, more than once as it is a common problem on the five chain engines. It can be done with the engine in, but is far easier with it out.
I actually just read the write up by 5th Gear Auto about this. Are the new guides any better than the old ones? I think this is a reoccurring issue is it not? Mine only seems to be coming from Bank 1, with the codes I'm getting. I've heard that these engines take around 8 hrs to drop out is my only concern. A lot of time just to replace a $25 part. Everything else has been replaced in my engine. I'm guessing the pads weren't replaced by updated ones...
