Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was in the process of an HVAC Blend Door Defoaming project and was using jumper cables to connect my battery (outside the car) to the battery cables in the frunk to move the HVAC Blend Doors back and forth. On one thoughtless occasion, I reversed the cables, heard a buzzing sound, seeming to come from the frunk area. This went on for a few seconds until I figured out what had happened. One of the cable clamps was warm.
Does anyone know what damage could have been done having the battery connected backwards with the ignition key off and/or possible things to look for?
I'd be worried about electronics first and foremost. Hopefully the ignition switch was off? Otherwise power was flowing the wrong way through a lot of things that might not like it. I think the only way to be sure is to connect the battery correctly and start turning stuff on.
While doing the HVAC Blend Door project, I had connected and disconnected the jumper cables a few times (correctly), turned the ignition key on and moved the blend doors into various positions via the HVAC Control panel without incident. In one case, I wasn't paying enough attention, and reversed the cables at the battery. The ignition key was still off but I heard a buzzing inside the frunk and after a few seconds, saw the reversed cables and disconnected them. I have since successfully started and driven the car. The only thing that's in question so far is the radio. It does not seem to be functioning, but it's tough to tell because its LED display had failed a few months back. I'll check into this further.
I'm thinking I should be checking everything that could have had reverse current flow with the ignition key off (which is hopefully a short list?).
I have repaired a few 996 that had battery cables reversed ...
The usual failures that happen are the CD-Changer in the Frunk and the Radio that gets fried ..... and sometimes the Alternator .....That said ANYTHING Electrical can be damaged when battery cables are reversed, just have to see what has failed/no longer works....
When I did that, my alternator was fried. Autozone has a good aftermarket replacement. Takes a while to replace as it is a very tight fit out and then back in.
It looks like the radio and CD Changer were the victims of my reverse polarity adventure, alternator seems to have survived. Now I need to see what my audio options are, not sure if I want to put money into a CD Changer since the technology seems to be going the way of the 8-track players of the 70's?
