I installed the Top gear headers and 200 cell xpipe (forgot to weight the x pipe!) and its much smoother through out the higher rpm, resonates a little at 2800 though..

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After
some discussion in another thread here
, Ive managed to arrange a group buy of 200 cell cat pipes or X-pipes through Phoenix Exhaust. These pipes are actually made by Top Gear UK. Phoenix is marketing the systems to the North American market with Top Gear's blessing.
Regular pricing is US$500 for the cat pipes, and US$620 for the x-pipes. Anecdotally, there is some low end torque loss with the x-pipes. The torque loss supposedly can be nullified with a tune. I do not have any practical experience or dyno graphs of anything, but either system should provide a 10-15 hp bump. Frankly, my primary concern is with a bit more sound without being obnoxious, and I just dont want to lose any power. And I'm 'price conscious' and feel that an option which is wallet friendly is a good idea (as long as the quality is reasonable).
Construction is stainless steel. The systems are fabricated in the UK. I do not have any further information regarding the manufacturer or origin of the catalytic converters themselves, but the pricing is very competitive compared to other manufacturers.
The group buy discount is a flat rate of US$60.00 off per system. Shipping via DHL Express is
INCLUDED
, but taxes and customs duty and brokerage will be the responsibility of the buyer.
Currently (8 February 2017), Phoenix does not have stock of the cat pipes or 996 x-pipes, but does have stock on the 997 x-pipes. I will update when I have more information. Phoenix does not want to accept orders until stock is available.
Please indicate your interest with a response to the thread, indicating 996 or 997 and cat pipe or x-pipe. Ive started two threads, one in each of the 996 and 997 forums. However, as Im a 997 owner, I typically dont visit the 996 forum, so
please post your response in the 997 forum thread
.
A discount code will be used to activate the discount when ordering online. For now, as most of the systems are not yet available, these threads are to garner interest.
I have no interest in either Top Gear or Phoenix. The idea of a group buy arose from a discussion in the 997 forum, so I thought I'd take the lead and do a bit of emailing, and that's it.

Interested, but a little wary of this: "Shipping via DHL Express is INCLUDED, but taxes and customs duty and brokerage will be the responsibility of the buyer."... Are they coming from UK ? Or, "Pheonix" ? The price certainly seems good if there aren't any hidden costs.
I am interested as well, but can someone please explain the difference between the 2 systems for our 996 cars? Both are 200 cells Hi-flow cats but is the X-pipe connected together is better then the other? I am interested in some better exhaust sounds as well. Thanks and cheers,
ah my mistake. It looks like both the links have cats. Ignore me Botsy
edit: name added to the 997 thread, where the list of those interested is being aggregated.
Hey guys, I was about to post some answers but looks like the discussion took care of that!
I'm only checking in on this thread periodically, more so on the 997 forum thread. I'm hoping we'll have word on the cat pipes soon, then people can make moves to purchase very soon after.
I'm told headers will soon be available as well.
Not to distract from the intent of the thread... but I was thinking just 200CEL pipes... no downside. What would be the reasons to get x-pipe instead? more gain in top end power? with a tune can you get back low end, and still have the upper gain?
FYI - let's get this an order in, post in the 997 thread to get on the list & let the supplier know it's worth their while to restock.

Any idea if these are CARB certified? I'm assuming "no," but figured I'd ask anyway.
AFAIK, upstate New York (where I live) requires a visual inspection of exhaust systems, looking for either an OE exhaust or a CARB sticker. Further south (NYC and surrounding counties) require an emissions test, but we don't have that requirement.
I have no idea how strictly this is observed, or if inspection sites don't really care as long as the exhaust isn't too loud. Anybody out there in NY running an aftermarket X-pipe with no inspection issues?
For anyone skeptical of the deal... I actually just received mine on Friday. I ordered from TopGear directly after reading about them and PM'ing a member about it last week. The price was extremely attractive and it only took 3 days from the UK to my door. Email notifications constantly to let me know when to expect the delivery. I'm very impressed with the build quality for the price. I plan on getting it installed later this week. I have fabspeed MaxFlows so I'm hoping this will give it the sound that I've been wanting. Here's a pic to see what it looks like out of the box.
Well ^there's^ a post that's just chock full O' information
The X pipe certainly looks nice enough, but... How much $ was the shipping? Did you get charged a VAT? If so, how much was that? There's just no way I'm going to give out my credit card without knowing the actual price... Do you guys do this often?
Amazing how much concern over import fees and VAT. If any of you were Canadian you wouldn't even change the oil in these cars if you're scared of a little shipping cost.
Getting something from south of the border to the Great White North almost immediately adds $50-$100.
World Motorsports is the ONLY US company I haven't been bent over by.
If $40 of import fees is going to scare you off a good deal... well. I think it's time to pull out that old, true, and ever annoying, "Gotta pay to play."
Well you could've just asked about the shipping but you chose to add a smartass comment with it. Bravo. My post was just to give potential buyers an idea on what it looks like. $500 did raise concern and doubt for me before I purchased it. I won't post what the cost was to my door so that I don't potentially derail a Group Buy. That's not my intent here since I went directly to Top Gear. If folks are interested you can PM me.
You mind grabbing a weight on them? I installed the Top gear headers and 200 cell xpipe (forgot to weight the x pipe!) and its much smoother through out the higher rpm, resonates a little at 2800 though..
Stock exhaust manifold + cats: 38.6 lbs
Top Gear Headers: 16.8lbs
Top gear 2.5" x pipe: 18 lbs
Weight Savings: 3.8 lbs
Sure! I'll weigh it later tonight when I get home.
I debated on the headers as well. Still might pick them up since the price is really good. How do you like them? Do you have stock mufflers or aftermarket?
Whole system bolted up fairly well, with only a couple of issues..
the x pipe doesnt work with the stock cat mount, I didnt notice until I had everything bolted up and couldnt get the clamps on, the pipes are bigger in diameter duh.. so i need to go back in and take the xpipe back off to remove the bracket as it is touching the xpipe currently (might be the cause of the resonance at 2800..)
Also the headers now protrude beneath the muffler bracket bolts which if you have ever removed the mufflers you know its a pain unless you reverse the bolt direction.. which is not possible now..
I was fairly impressed with the fit and finish, and they bolted right up to my stock mufflers, definitely louder but no drone or anything. Tried them with the muffler bypass pipes and it was crazy loud.. I did lose about 1 mpg, thought that was odd, I think usually you get better mileage with high flow cats...
Thanks europorsche914! Appreciate the info!
What are you going to do to remedy this? Getting mine installed this weekend so I'm trying to plan ahead. Thanks.
Well you have 2 options, 1 take the mount off and throw it in a box, and forget it, they seem a little redundant anyway.. Or get exhaust clamps for 2.5" pipe. Either way the clearance wasnt same as stock but you can make it work
I run the same setup, headers and x-pipe (big bore version) and can confirm droning between 2200-3000rpm.
Will need to check if everything is connected properly. Curious if you managed to trace a cause or if it is inherent to the pipe design.
I've let Phoenix know about the numbers of interested people, and asked for an update as to when they expect stock, but haven't heard back. As soon as I have info, I'll post it up!
a) I could care less what you pay in "the great white north",
b) I never said $40 would "scare me off". I simply stated that I would like to know the cost up front - no one has posted it yet...
c) "Gotta pay to play"... I own a Porsche - I pay to play every day...🙄
