Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
Aside of having a trusted friend point you in the right direction, that's probably the best way to find a reputable shop who won't take advantage of your situation...
Leading evidence: 'best way' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'best way' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend hitting up the pca site' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Personally, I would recommend hitting up the PCA site to see what shops they recommend in your area.

Suggestion
I believe some have fixed this issue by doing a transmission flush and replace the trans filter.

BUT I still think that the transmission needs to be hooked up to a scanner and taken for a test drive to see what is happening.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.
Rennlist: 1 discussions
0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

hi my psm dash light has come on not the switch light. Also the tiptronic only works in auto now and not right. Gear position indicator lights on dash flash in an alternate manner. Car also feels more urgent as if sport mode and there isnt one.
Car is a 996 C4 1999 tiptronic
Help please
P5529 Faulty CAN message from TCU
https://books.google.com/books?id=Ra...205529&f=false
Something is wrong with Transmission Control Unit and the message it is sending.
Thanks very much for info. not sure where to start.
I have disconnected and re connected connectors on unit under seat in a hope of a poor connection . But no luck. Did not really think it would be that easy.
Any ideas of where to look next. Please don`t suggest a workshop as i want to sort myself if at all possible. Would you say then it is a tiptronic fault ?
It has never started in park I always use netral
Manual has now stopped working and of course the tip switches
Cruise control works
Car runs in a reduced driving mode and quite feisty surprisingly
Any help much appreciated as I know some good engineers get on this forum
If you want to do it yourself then get a scanner that can read the transmission. Otherwise you and everyone else is just guessing. THEN when the scanner tells you what the problem MIGHT be, you'll need to do a proper diagnosis by getting your hands dirty and ONLY THEN start replacing parts.
Judging the way you are asking your questions, your safest, cheapest, best option would be to have someone with the right tools and knowledge look at it or this will become really expensive really fast.
Good points, but if others have had this fault code or similar symptoms I could at least try there fixes first, rather than recreate the wheel and spend money which I don`t have
Anyone else had durametric P5529 ?
Then start pinning out the connectors on the harness for the TCM and look for a short or broken wire. BUT I still think that the transmission needs to be hooked up to a scanner and taken for a test drive to see what is happening.
Thanks for advice. But we could all take our cars to the experts and fork out , but we don`t do we. I will live with the consequences but want to fix myself ( with a little help from my friends of course)
cheers
Be thankful you don't get the dreaded "PMS" MIL... apparently only occurs once a month on the ultra rare pink or rainbow colored 911s.
I think all Boxsters suffer from this problem.
I have heard of issues where the tip will not work in auto but will work in manual mode. I believe some have fixed this issue by doing a transmission flush and replace the trans filter.
I am not sure if this is possibly your issue as I think most of the time it was the other way around (auto not working and manual mode would work).. May be worth a shot if you want to do the transmission service yourself.
Good luck
thanks but mine works in auto but no 5th gear but wont work at all in manual. have not really tried anything other than looking for poor connections. I'm beginning to think its perhaps more serious
When was your tranny fluid last flushed? If you don't know, that should be your first attempted fix, which sounds like it might be a reasonable DIY project. I don't know the process so I'm just guessing on that, members with Tiptronics who have done that themselves, please speak up.
And if that doesn't work, time to go to a shop. If you don't think you have money for that now and you said you're willing to live with the consequences... but if you take a step back and consider just how cavalier that comment is... you might reconsider. Thing could get MUCH worse financially if you continue driving it as is, or if you get in there and poke around at things you don't know about.

Aside of having a trusted friend point you in the right direction, that's probably the best way to find a reputable shop who won't take advantage of your situation... At minimum, call them up and tell them the code, you may get some good (and free) advice from a tech over the phone...
Where are you located? Maybe RL'ers near you can offer better advice...
If you want usable help, you need to write down what exactly you've check so far, how you did it and what were the results. Mind reading is not one of mine strong points.
