Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

With the clamp you can adjust side to side , up and down but in and out can only be adjusted with the nut on the tailpipe .
Leading evidence: 'Adjust with the nut' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust (it's abit of a fiddle)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. ...I encountered the same issue when I fitted Topgear milds to mine...no issue with fitment with the original oem exhaust...

I've fitted Top Gear cats and boxes as well as replaced the engine mounts.

The clamps are fully tightened but I can still move the pipes.

Suggestion
If your clamps are badly corroded it's worth replacing and makes it alot easier to adjust (it's abit of a fiddle)
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
I just can't get these the same, it's a real struggle to get them level and not touching the bumper and the left one sits too far inside the bumper. The clamps are fully tightened but I can still move the pipes.
I've fitted Top Gear cats and boxes as well as replaced the engine mounts. I've also bought new clamps. I see there are nuts on the bottom of the tail pipes that could offer some fore and aft adjustment but they are rusted solid.
Any other tips gratefully received.
Simon
I recently ground off the remnants of the coach bolt securing the tail pipes and replaced them with stainless ones sourced from ebay which worked perfectly. Once removed you should have the ability to adjust the position correctly.
You will need to grind/cut the nuts on the bottom of the tip to give you better adjustment, you will never line them up with just the clamp moving.
One reason they are odd, other than a new exhaust system, is that the engine mounts may have sagged. Its best to change the mounts to get everything where it should be and adjust to suit.

If it was me i would have a look at this nut side to side .. if both in the same place then perhaps the pipe from the silencer to the tail pipe is bent backwards a bit .
A rusted nut and heat is your best friend and plenty of it .. these though are a bit fragile and will probably just twist ..
No easy answer im afraid
Revisiting this as I have an issue with my own tailpipes being off centre. I tried adjusting using the clamp closer to the muffler where it join to the tailpipe but it moves in an arc and not side to side. Are you referring to the collar clamp with two nuts that connect the muffler to the cat? If I loosen those two is there enough play to move side to side?
...I encountered the same issue when I fitted Topgear milds to mine...no issue with fitment with the original oem exhaust...
...when I got fed up with fiddling I took the car to my local exhaust place and they spent quite awhile with the exhaust on and off making adjustments to get the tips correctly aligned and not hitting the bumper...
...so issue is the Topgear exhaust; their tolerances are not as precise as the original item leading to these issues...
I had the Topgear Valvetronic exhaust with 200 cell cats and had no probs with uneven pipes.
When I have the engine out and re fitted, I did have a slight in balance, but as the hardware was new I just un bolted the clamp and rotated the tip until even.
