Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, I am comeletly new/virgin when it comes to Porsches. Little bit about me, I am/was a BMW fanatic love them to bits and have owned over 15 to date my most current was a M3 (e46) which i had sadly had to sell due to a back injury i incurred last year.. .. my back is a lot better now i have owned all 3 generations of the M3 and currently drive a E30 325i (with a 2.7 litre conversation) as a daily runabout. I have decide to go to the next step..... 911 turbo always wanted one and now going for it!!! I have one question that has been bugging me as i cant get a stright forward anwser to ...... when /does the timing chain need replacing on a 911 turbo if so when should it be replaced? please help thanks

POST 2Original post

A timing belt on a 911 TT is no where as major as other car marques, but as for when, I'm sure a nice 996 TT owner will come along to tell us what the interval is from their owners service manual !

POST 3Original post

There is no timing belt, it's a chain and I can't recall hearing of one needing replacement. There's a serpentine belt (pumps, alternator etc) that needs replacing every 48k.

POST 6Original post

I've never read anything that points to a timing chain change mileage. The auxilliary external drive belt is always worth changing at say 30K to be on the safe side. Regards Big Bob :bye:
