I replaced the standard long shift on my GT3 with a 997 shift, it's slightly shorter, better constructed than the standard and I found it to be quite a good improvement.

I've been deliberating for some time now as to the benefits of changing my gear shifter from the 996tt factory short shift which I currently run.

I'm also going to fit the EvoMS billet shift linkage to replace the oem plastic shifter, whatever I go for.

Can anyone on the board who has made this change pass comment on whether they are happy with it, and I'd be especially interested if its brought up any wtee issues.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am a bit concerned about what changing the shifter will do to my wtee... there are known issues of worn synchros and 2nd gear pop out issues which should they arise I dont want the opc to blame on the aftermarket shifter....
This leads me to look more favourably on the 997 shift... i understand its smoother through the gate than the 6ssk but a bit longer as well.

Thx :thumb:
no experience of the 997 shift option I'm afraid but I did buy a billet linkage when I put the B&M kit on mine. I ended up keeping the stock link as the billet one holds the cable in place witha grub screw. This grub screw has to bite down on the old nylon threaded end of the shift cable. I thought thst was a naff idea and was more likely to fail than than the std link. The std link is also threaded so makes a perfect connection to the cable an is also easy to adjust, just a few twists and you can really fine tune it. The grub screw thing on the billet link was very hit or miss.
i still have the billet one if you must have it, sensible offer not refused......

Have a look for the thread discussing this, it went on for quite a while
Thanks for the offer Senoj, i'm gonna stick with the evoms one which should fit well enough.
I had a good look on the different forums for thoughts on the 7 shift and general consensus seems to be its worthwhile...
How does the shifter hold up on track Damian, do you have to fight to get the gears in when rushed (3rd to 2nd for instance) & does it feel robust enough ?
It's fine on track and you shouldn't be rushing any gears
Here's my original post on the subject......

As you can see the whole mechanism has been strengthened and improved, there's a slight angle change, tilting the lever more towards the driver.
Just remember not to go for the 997 short shift, that's even shorter than the B&M on a 996.
Hope this helps
Thanks Damian - Interested to see that you have experience with the B&M kit.... I had played with it through the gate on a friends 6tt last weekend and was amazed at how short and rifle bolt it was.... very clickety clack... made my factory ssk feel super long and loose..... however i've heard that on track the b&m can be tough to stick in gear and also that its very notchy when cold.
Would you concur with this ?
The 997ssk is about twice the price of the standard shift, but if it offers a fluid motion along with shorter shift then it may be worth investigating also, have you any experience with the 7ssk ?
The B&M is short but not too bad, I had one on my 4S and with the exception of cold days I loved it, fine on the track and always felt precise. I do have to say the current owner of my 4S doesn't like, she finds it a little too heavy/stiff.
I've got no experience of the 997ssk, after trying the B&M on the GT3 it was just too short so I had to try the standard 997 which was just slightly shorter than GT3 standard and just right.
I do believe that there was/is someone on here with 997ssk, I just can't recall if it was on a 997 or 996.
Personally I'd give the B&M a try if you liked on your friends as the cost of a legit B&M is around the same price as the 997 standard shift replacement.
