Suggestion

A lot of people try adjusting the cables but this doesn't really achieve anything - you need to get the showes close to the drms and adjusting the shoes is the only way to do this.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Purchased my C4 996 2001 Tiptronic a couple of months ago (GR8 Car)and have asked a few questions on the site. But now have another to ask? I have to park the car on a steep hill over night but i seem to religh on putting the cark into park to stop it rolling should the hand brake do better than that and will this do the car any harm? Cheers SideKick :?

POST 2Original post

Curb the wheels first for extra piece of mind. Stick it in park, take your foot off the brake so it takes up the slack, then apply the handbrake.

POST 3Original post

Hi, I have a similar problem. I park on a steepish drive and my handbrake isn't the best. I put the car into neutral, than apply the brake. The car will roll a little bit forward then the brake bites. I then move the tip into Park and this also locks the rear wheels. Putting the car into Park will stop is moving forward, but I don't think this is particularly good for the gearbox!

POST 4Original post

The hand brake is adjusted at the shoes on the rear wheels. To do this you will need to remove both rear wheels and support the car on stands. Then insert a screwdriver through one of the bolt holes - you'll need a good torch to see them. Turn the adjester till the wheel locks up and then back off a few clicks to free up the wheel. Do exactly the same on the other wheel. A lot of people try adjusting the cables but this doesn't really achieve anything - you need to get the showes close to the drms and adjusting the shoes is the only way to do this. Ray
