Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Just wondering if anyone has gone down the route of running lightweigh wheels and how much performance gain you experienced?

My aluminium replicas are about 12 kg heavier (for the set) than the original mags which are sitting wrapped up in the spare room and the turn in is noticeably slower.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

With the GT3 Kit and sport suspension I'm pretty happy with the handling of my 996. I'd like to go quicker now  (997 Turbo Cab ordered - no wait that was just a wet dream - doh)
Just wondering if anyone has gone down the route of running lightweigh wheels and how much performance gain you experienced?
There is an online parts company that have carbon wheels (well the rims are but i think the spokes are magnesium) and they reckon it's like removing 3 adults from the car with the gain in acceleration!
Mind you they're about £4k + vat for a set and I wouldn't dream about using them on a public road.
Ah, no. There is light and there is LIGHT! You can save 3 Kg's between a racing lightweight wheel and a heavy "looks" type wheel. Obviously Magnesium is the way to go if you can afford it....
Found a post with some really good info from Ade including a chart of the different porker wheels and their weight.
If most standard rear wheels are only a maximum of around 13KG maybe there isn't a lot to be gained!
Anyone know how much carbon/magnesium wheels weigh?
Don't forget that the reduction in weight of the wheels is on the un-sprung weight. This supposedly has the same effect as between 3 and 5 times the sprung weight. My aluminium replicas are about 12 kg heavier (for the set) than the original mags which are sitting wrapped up in the spare room and the turn in is noticeably slower.
At 5 times, that's the equivalent of losing a 9 1/2 stone passenger as far as the handling goes.

unless you like cracked rims
Lightweight wheels (unsprung weight) make a huge difference in handling.
The lighter the better, although you have to make a decision on compromising strength and durability vs. weight and performance.
