I'm replacing the strut, so I don't really care what happens to it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Okay, everything I've read says how easy it is to remove the rear struts... so what I am doing wrong? I've removed the three nuts on top of the strut (inside the car), the connection to the drop link, and the bolt to the wheel carrier. And it still won't budge. I think maybe the top is just really stuck to the underside of the chassis. Do I just need to pry it out? Or knock the bolts from above? I'm replacing the strut, so I don't really care what happens to it. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Is the spring holding/tensioning the strut in position possibly?

POST 3Original post

is the bottom of the strut lose, if the only thing holding it is the top plate then you can tap down on the 3 bolts and break it lose

Yeah, that's probably it. I guess sometimes I am too reluctant to apply a lot of force. I should know better by now...

POST 5Original post

What about the top nut on the strut (strut to top mount)? Yeah, sometimes you have to use some force - don't be a-scared!

POST 6Original post

another trick is to break the top nut when its still in the car, let it off a few threads. when its out the shaft spins, b ut if its already broken it will come right off

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Success! Now on to the toe links...
