a) Clean the hatch rubber seals using soap and water (or some other APC) and then putting Vaseline *lightly* around the rubber seals (after it's dried).

If you need to replace the sensor, I believe OPC charge about £150, but your local Indy will probably cost around £100-120.

I am thinking if perhaps there is an option to have it programed to operate on that way when the car is unlocked and the previous owner had it set by an indy or an OPC.

Now try opening the hatch using either UNLOCK method above to see if that's fixed the problem....making sure that the roof is completely shut before doing this.

Every time I unlock the car the hatch opens and to close it I have to push it and then use the fob or the button inside the cabin to lock it..after that I can not unlock it unless I lock the car wait for few minutes and unlock it again.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just bought a 02 targa. Every time I unlock the car the hatch opens and to close it I have to push it and then use the fob or the button inside the cabin to lock it..after that I can not unlock it unless I lock the car wait for few minutes and unlock it again.
Any ideas????? :?:
That's a very strange problem!
Just to check, you are using the main button at the top of your key fob to lock and unlock the car?
The button on the bottom left operates the hatch and unlocks the car.
Have you tried the other key out of interest?
...and when you say you can't lock the car for a few minutes, does the remote sensor on the dash flash (ie. show that it's receiving signal).
I wonder if it's something simple like the battery in the key fob, so try the other key and if you still have problems then I have no idea at all!!! sorry.
Hi
thanks
Rest is fine....basically for whatever reason the lock does not unlock neither using the keys (button at botton right) or the button inside the car.
Ok, just to check what you're doing:
TO UNLOCK
1) With the roof shut and the car locked, pressing the bottom right button does not unlock the hatch?
or
1) With the roof shut and the car unlocked (ie. sitting inside the car), pressing the bigger middle button in the door sill does not unlock the hatch?
TO LOCK
In order to lock the hatch, be very careful not to drop the glass. I gently lower the glass carefully placing my fingers between the hatch and bodywork. When the hatch is about a finger gap between the bodywork, I remove my hand and then gently push the hatch down until it touches the motor mechanism.....then the motor pulls the hatch down snugly onto the bodywork.
What I'd recommend is:
a) Clean the hatch rubber seals using soap and water (or some other APC) and then putting Vaseline *lightly* around the rubber seals (after it's dried). This prevents the hatch from sticking (and interestingly, my local OPC does this during service). Be careful not to apply too much Vaseline though!!!
b) Operate the main roof completely all the way back and forward several times (there's a sensor in the roof that prevents the hatch from opening and this might be at the root of your problem). Then with the roof open, spray the runners and grooves with silicon spray (you can get this from Robert Dyas...even the smaller stores). Then operate the roof again, several times backwards and forwards (this will also lessen the squeaking from the glass roof).
Now try opening the hatch using either UNLOCK method above to see if that's fixed the problem....making sure that the roof is completely shut before doing this.
PS. Holding the main lock/unlock button when locking the car will auto-close the roof and windows. When unlocking, holding the button will auto-open the roof and windows.
Good luck
Cheers,
GD
Sorry, just to clarify this point.
If the car "thinks" the main roof is open, then the hatch will not open.
There's a sensor somewhere in the mechanism (I don't know where unfortunately...but I think it's somewhere in the blind section) and I suspect that this might be sticking and giving you the problem you report.
It could be a sticky release mechanism, so I'd also give this a little spray of WD-40 if you can get at the release pin. You can check this, by unlocking the car and you can hear the rear motors spinning, but not releasing the door.
If you need to replace the sensor, I believe OPC charge about £150, but your local Indy will probably cost around £100-120. However, when your car is over 5 years old, then the I believe the price gap reduces, as (I think) OPC have a cheaper hourly rate....at least OPC Guildford do this.
PS Camtune are a very good Indy local to me as well...not sure where you're based.
Cheers,
GD
Hi,
Thanks for the advise...will follow and see if I am lucky!
When I unlock the car with the key the hatch opens completelly... to close it I do it manually by pressong the hatch until I hear the motor latching and then I have to press the botton right on the key or the botton inside the car (by door) to completely lock it.
If after performing the above I try to open the hatch neither the key or the button inside operates...
So basically the function of the buttons (both inside the car and on the key) is reversed and lock the hatch instead to unlocking it!!
I am London based. I am thinking if perhaps there is an option to have it programed to operate on that way when the car is unlocked and the previous owner had it set by an indy or an OPC.
Hi,
That's most odd. I don't think it's possible to have it reversed and I have no idea as to why you'd want to do that.
Personally, I now think that something is sticking in the hatch mechanism and hopefully the WD-40 will sort it out!!
