Is it worth upgrading my normal summer alloys to 18 x 7.5 and 18 x 10 to replace my current 17's with decent vredstein winter tyres?

Do you think if i get a set of 17" boxster wheels even tho they would cause a bit more oversteer that they would be ok for use with winter tyres?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, whats a good play to get a set of 4 17" alloys from and price. Also the normal wheels are 7J and 9J however i find some that say 8J is there much difference between and 7J.

POST 2Original post

try here for sizes Chris, not used them myself but I hear good reports porsche wheels

POST 3Original post

There are acouple of sets on eBay at the moment. I should think you will find them on there regularly, as people tend to upgrade to 18's, and sell the 17's. 7Jx17 and 9Jx17 are the standard sizes for F/R. I would stick to those, as 8" on the front might upset the balance

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

that's what I was thinking, I don't want more understeer [ ]. EDIT:I had a quick look at that website, and they seem quite expensive. I was thinking maybe £500 for a set of 4 which i guess is only realistic if i go second hand. Also is there a difference between boxter fittings and 996 wheel fittings?

POST 5Original post

The website is useful for the sizes and styles Chris, they are genuine wheels so not cheap but I guess you get what you pay for

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im not doubting that they're real im just a bit reluctant to spend £3000ish on a set of wheels.

POST 7Original post

Boxster rears in 17" are only 8.5" wide. 996: 7Jx17 ET50 or 55 Front 9Jx17 ET55 Rear 986: 7Jx17 ET55 Front 8.5Jx17 ET48 or 50 Rear

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok thanks, i ask as there is a set of 4 on ebay that mentions boxster plus 996 fitment.

POST 9Original post

I'm sure they will fit, but they won't be right for the car.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ive had a look on google and there doesnt seem to be many places selling 17" alloys in the 7 x 17 and the 9 x 17 size. Is it worth upgrading my normal summer alloys to 18 x 7.5 and 18 x 10 to replace my current 17's with decent vredstein winter tyres? Most places that sell other 17" alloys only seem to do 8 x 17 and 9 x 17 as a set of 4. Cheers Chris

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Do you think if i get a set of 17" boxster wheels even tho they would cause a bit more oversteer that they would be ok for use with winter tyres?

POST 12Original post

They should be OK, and will be fine for clearance. The outside faces will be in a very similar position front and rear, and you will get about 11mm more clearance at the rear. Should be no problem for winter tyres. May be a slight advantage in snow.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thats what i was thinking, less oversteer in snow is always a good thing.
