Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

got the H8 in my car, used a blind nut on the third hole on the tray.

Did not realise LiFe batteries were used for cars as well.

I'm on year 6 with a H8 with a battery maintainer used religiously.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My new to me '99 would not start the other day. My charger showed the battery only had a 50% charge. It quickly charged up but now I'm concerned that it will leave me stranded at some point.
I used to buy only Optima batteries but have not had good luck with them in the past few years. What are fellow enthusiasts purchasing now?
I bought a Bosch Platinum Series AGM Battery Group Size H7/L4/94R. I got it at Pep Boys for around $200 all-in. They have a deal were you get a 15% discount if you buy online and pick it up at the store.
My research told me that AGM was the way to go. Make sure you connect the vent tube.
If you enter your make and model into their system, it won't show that battery as an option but it definitely fits. You have to go directly to that battery to order it.

Here is a link to a thread about batteries that you might find useful.

Ditto for Bosch AGM. Sometimes Pep Boys even runs a 25% off coupon - order on line with the coupon and pick up at the store. H7/94R is the correct size for the 996/997 battery tray. You could fit an H8 in there (an inch and a half longer) but you may have to modify the hold down clamp.
The battery tray has the ability to fit 3 sizes of batteries...Battery type/size has been discussed ad-nauseum in the forums - do a search and you'll find hours worth of reading pleasure
Wallmart EvertStart Maxx 94R/H7. Good battery, fits perfectly, and about as cheap as you can get. I've run one for almost 5 years now in my 996 and just bought the same one for my BWM 335i.
I'd recommend installing it yourself though
Agree - some tips -
1) Save your back and step into the trunk when you're removing the old and installing the new.
2) Make sure you get the polarity correct - positive on the passenger side
3) Hook up the vent tube
+996 on the Walmart MAXX battery. It's built by Johnson Controls and all the specs, everything, are exactly the same as Interstate. I'm on year 6 with a H8 with a battery maintainer used religiously. The tray hole on my car wasn't threaded for the larger size and I just slid a nut underneath it using needle nose pliers. Really easy peasy!
+1 for the Walmart maxx. I was a religious interstate guy until I did some research. Only 4 companies make batteries and the H7 fit perfectly, came with the vent tube, and was a simple drop in. Also agree that stepping into the frunk is the way go when replacing it.
Wallyworld Maxx can not be beat, comes with 5 year full replacement warranty. got the H8 in my car, used a blind nut on the third hole on the tray. also has highest consumers rating, built by Johnson Control
Don't you guys know that your going to void the warranty on our 18 year old cars? Sheesh! I only buy approved Porsche batteries from the dealer and have them install it for only $1,285,000. Walmart batteries in a Porsche...wow...just wow!
right when my 7yr old Interstate battery started getting sluggish, Sears had an online sale on DieHards. I stopped by my local Sears and the rep at the counter agreed to honor the 'internet' price at the store, a few minutes later discovered that they were out of stock on the 'regular' battery, and gave me an group 94R AGM for the sale price of conventional battery.
Definitely get agm if you are not using as daily driver - will withstand multiple discharge cycles better. And yes , order online and pickup in store to save - I got sears one but pep boys Bosch also looks good - probably both made my Johnson anyway !
When I purchased my 996, it had an interstate battery in it that was over 5 years old. Even though it still produced a strong crank, I replaced it when an AutoCraft battery from Advanced Auto. I didn't want to risk it. I'm sure you've heard of the pains trying to access a 996 when a dead battery.
Good advice. For the past few years every battery that I have purchased has been the result of a failure and I took what was available locally.. I'm strongly considering getting ahead of the failure and ordering the Odyssey PC925T with Rennline mounting kit.
Interesting. Did not realise LiFe batteries were used for cars as well. Less then 4 pounds! Compared to 47 pounds! How long do you have it in now? All working well?

It's in my stripped out track car but I haven't had any issues with it in 6 months. The only time it has died is when I left the key in the ignition overnight but the same thing happened to my DD with a regular battery after a day or so.
