Well...after carefully looking at the service records from the previous owner, I noticed something on the some of the repair invoices.

Suggestion

Unfortunately yes but I would definitely use a screwdriver/stethoscope to verify it with the car jacked up first before you drop the tranny.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have been trying to find information on the forums about a noisey slave cylinder/clutch/release lever. Not 100% what the noise is - as others have reported it isn't the cylinder, but rather the joint where the clutch release lever pivots. It's very hard to read about "sounds" so not sure if what I was reading was related or not. I could start throwing money at the problem, but would prefer to get some feed back first. Yes..my clutch pedal spring also makes noise. The noise I'm talking about is coming from under the vehicle - a very creeky sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMMe...ature=youtu.be

POST 2Original post

If it's coming under from under the vehicle, it's likely the clutch fork, no? The slave is hydraulic so it doesn't make noise. Maybe you can get your car up the lift and ask someone to press the clutch while you listen to the bell housing area.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, but I don't want it to be the clutch fork The only way to lubricate it is by dropping the transmission, correct?

POST 4Original post

Unfortunately yes but I would definitely use a screwdriver/stethoscope to verify it with the car jacked up first before you drop the tranny. Dropping a tranny gives you a good workout for sure

POST 5Original post

It sounds like two different things. The first few times you pump it, it sounds like the pedal is squeaking. Then, when you go slower it is just the creaking noise from the transmission. Mine did (the latter) for a while and subsequently stopped.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well...after carefully looking at the service records from the previous owner, I noticed something on the some of the repair invoices. In a span of a month, the PO drive 30k+ miles...or the lady who did the invoice hit the 9 instead of the 6. So my clutch, release fork, throw out bearing, release bearing, etc. are 30k miles older than I had thought. Given the age and mileage, it sounds like it's actually time to throw money at the car. Thanks for the input so far though!

POST 7Original post

I agree with Charlie. Good ears. I had noise in both my pedal and the clutch bell housing. Not nearly as bad as your video shows but it's the same type of noise. Some lube took care of the pedal noise but the creaking in the bell housing was always there intermittently. Of course, my clutch eventually failed https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...h-failure.html I found no trace of lube on any of the pivots After the new parts and lube at the correct places, my clutch is super quiet and it's butter smooth. Before that, I could feel things were really DRY when I pressed the clutch. Felt painful now just thinking about it.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I remember that thread. Question: when your release fork was hitting the fingers on the pressure plate, did it sound like a tapping noise when you began to let off the clutch?

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 14022035

It was a very loud and rapid tapping noise (many fingers x rpm). You won't miss it and you just know it's wrong to keep driving it.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Okay, definitely not the other rattling noise I hear coming from my trans. lol Along with the creek, I get a slight rattle from the clutch when I clutch all the way in and let off about a quarter way. (Like when going over speed bumps, parking, etc)

POST 11Original post

Flywheel will make that noise unless it's very new

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have this light weight flywheel from PO as well as a sachs power clutch. I get zero slip, so I'm wondering if the added rattle is from the clutch/pressure plate/flywheel combo. There's only about 60k miles on this set up. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-aasco-pa...106411-11~aas/ https://www.ecstuning.com/b-sachs-po...861999856~sap/
