Well i went and got my aircon recharged yesterday at Kwik Fit after reading about it on here, i have to say i was very pleased with the service, they check it first to see what the pressure is like and mine was just normally low for the time that it hadn't been charged for so they emptied the system checked for leaks and then regassed to the manufacturers settings which are all in their system, and low and behold the system is now fully serviced all for £45 AND they give you a 20% discount card fo the next time it needs doing !!!

The auxillary belt was changed on its last major service about 6k ago, on the engineers report it said about noise from aircon and recommended a regas, which i have just done, as i said the aircon works fine and was tested for leaks and was ok.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Had the exact same noise on my Targa, was the bearings on the compressor, £600 ish from opc if you have warranty suggest you get it changed before it runs out!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
Well i went and got my aircon recharged yesterday at Kwik Fit after reading about it on here, i have to say i was very pleased with the service, they check it first to see what the pressure is like and mine was just normally low for the time that it hadn't been charged for so they emptied the system checked for leaks and then regassed to the manufacturers settings which are all in their system, and low and behold the system is now fully serviced all for £45 AND they give you a 20% discount card fo the next time it needs doing !!!
I originally wanted to get it done as i have an irritating noise associated with the air con, it actually souns like a pulley or something however i was under the impression that a regas can stop some noise, so i got the regas done to see if would work, unfortunately it didn't i still have an annoying noise, sounds like a pully and the sound goes when you turn the chill button off, does anyone have any ideas what it could be, the noise is coming from the engine area so its obviously something that runs of the auxillary belt? i'm hoping its a tensioner or something rather than the compressor bearings ? Not too familiar with the engine set up so need to investigate i think. is there a tensioner that only comes into play when the air con is on ??
Anyway if you need a regas i can recommend Kwik Fit.
Dave
Could it be a slipping auxilliary drive belt? Have you had your auxilliary belts changed? Take a visual inspection of the belt driving the compressor - does it look worn?
I'm pleased you had a good experience, especially after I was one of the people who recommended them.
Yes mate you were the reason i went there and i was well pleased with their service, the guy really had a genuine interest in my car and talked me through what he was doing. The auxillary belt was changed on its last major service about 6k ago, on the engineers report it said about noise from aircon and recommended a regas, which i have just done, as i said the aircon works fine and was tested for leaks and was ok.
The noise is only there when the aircon is on, if you turn off the aircon the noise goes, i was thinki9ng compressor pulley however if it were the compressor pulley surley the noise would be there all the time because the pulley turns whether the aircon is on or off, i was thinking is there a fan that operates when the aircon is on?
Dave
Dave,
When you turn on your air-con, this enables a clutch and therefore starts the compressor turning. When turned off, the clutch is disengaged, and the pulley just freewheels.
My guess is that you have a noisy bearing in your compressor. May be worth keeping an eye open on Ebay for a cheap compressor perhaps.
Then again, I may be totally wrong
I think that you maybe right, they put a lube in with the gas when they serviced the aircon, i was hoping that after sometime for the lube to get round the system a bit it would quieten down, i think that i'll just live with it and if it stops working try and get anotherone on the warranty i got when i bought the car.
Dave

HOW MUCH !!! lol
