Hello all.......I drive a 2002 C2 and am looking for more exhaust noise........having been quoted £1800 for the PSE system fitted I'm looking for a cheaper option.......these look too good to be true.....lose 40lbs in weight and get a louder exhaust.......fit yourself in 30 minutes......

I too have just fitted the Oettle mufflers which I got on ebay and very happy indeed.

In all for £320 i'd say this is a great upgrade, particularly if, like me, your boxes need replacing (these are re-conditioned units...)

Easy to fit if you are mechanically minded, though you will almost cetainly have problems undoing rusted bolts and may have to replace corroded clamps.

oh i put HIDs on from HIDs4U, can't remember the price now, £200 maybe, or £150, for the ultimate set, made a big diff to light output from std and also easy to fit.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

) is very simple, take off the stock box, assemble the new one, drill a coupl of holes in the guide pipe (from the spoiler air intake, that squareish plastic pipe) assemble, tighten, insert MAF sensor.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone any experience of these....I've heard of the exhaust bypass work where some of the gases are diverted past the muffler but simply throwing the mufflers away and fitting a straight through pipe instead sounds nuts......surely earplugs would be necessary?
Someone convince me this is a great idea as I like the price.....failing that is there a cheaper option than PSE to release some sound?
Jim,
I've got the back boxes with muffler bypass (the Oettle boxes) paid £320 for them and think they're fantastic value for money. I too toyed with the PSE option but couldn't justify it ultimately (other things i'd sooner upgarde first). Combined with the K&N induction kit it makes a great noise (The PSE is effectively the same system but with the ability to switch it on or off. Oettle now do differing variations of the diameter pipe too so you can have more or less noise, of course you're stuck with the system "on" all the time)
In all for £320 i'd say this is a great upgrade, particularly if, like me, your boxes need replacing (these are re-conditioned units...)
Good luck
Tim
Thanks.....I'm the same about justifying the spending...I'm getting the x-74 suspension package fitted this year but as all i want is some more noise from the exhaust I didn't think the PSE was good value........
where did you get your bypass boxes from do you have a website or link?
Cheers
I've got a sports exhaust on my car which sounds awesome. I assume it's not the PSE as there's no switch and the sound is there all the time. Is there an easy way to tell which system it is?
I too have just fitted the Oettle mufflers which I got on ebay and very happy indeed. Link here in an active thread I posted to some on ebay.

Another 2 thumbs for the Oettle mufflers. Make me smile every time I start the engine.
Tim ... You have the induction kit as well as the modded mufflers? I was considering the same thing. Don't you find the combo a little harsh in the mobile salon with the roof off?
got a set of the fabspeed muffler bypass pipes sitting in my garage, took them off because they weren't loud enough....NOT!!
wife made me take them off
they are mega loud, sound awesome but .......maybe just a bit too much
200 miles on mine. make me an offer if you want
Easy to fit if you are mechanically minded, though you will almost cetainly have problems undoing rusted bolts and may have to replace corroded clamps. There was an excellent walkthrough on another thread recently:

I got a man to fit mine
You won't have any MOT issues.
well the customers love it darling. Especially the blue rinse brigade
Its not intrusive at all Jay T to be honest. I had the induction kit before the back boxes and its really only above 4000 revs that it starts to make a noticable difference to the noise. With the back boxes the noise is like a sonic boom at 5000 RPM in third, superb, fully recommend it, again, only £250 or so...
Cheers Tim. A few questions for you, if you'll indulge me:
I see from another thread that you fitted it yourself
Assume for a moment that I'm far more at home with a computer mouse than a spanner ... Is this something any monkey could do?
Where did you get yours / how much?
I see some people have had problems with the MAF sensor after installation. Any such issues for you?
Cheers.
Jay T, let me give you some insight into my DIY capability and skill. My favourite tool is a rubber hammer. If that doesn't work i generally use a bigger, metal hammer. If that hasn't worked i'm pretty much screwed and call in a professional who i'll pay 3 times as much to put it all right....
Fitting is really simple, I did get a competent mechanic friend of mine to help but the K&N version (
www.Design911.co.uk
) is very simple, take off the stock box, assemble the new one, drill a coupl of holes in the guide pipe (from the spoiler air intake, that squareish plastic pipe) assemble, tighten, insert MAF sensor. Job done. I'd have been confident doing it without my mate but it always helps
no problems to date (5000 miles ish) with the MAF sensor, 911 sport mentioned a fault (not specific) when it was serviced but not one that had shown up on the dash warning lights, they reset and having test driven said it didn't come up again so maybe a one off?
Otherwise superb, fully recommended and makes the engine bay look that little more interesting than stock.... :thumb:
Thanks for the advise Tim. Since I won't be able to put a warranty on the old 996 this year, I think I can justify the expense.
Any other worthwhile mods on yours Tim?
Apologies to the OP for the hijack.
upgraded stereo probably but then i turn that off more since fitting the back boxes as it finally sounds like a sports car should...
oh i put HIDs on from HIDs4U, can't remember the price now, £200 maybe, or £150, for the ultimate set, made a big diff to light output from std and also easy to fit. make sure you get white sidelights and main beam too though and then it looks phat with a ph... (word to your mother homes
