Had a chat with the nice girl on the service desk and told her I bought the car over the phone and would they mind giving it a quick check over, just to make sure everything was ok.

Then 12,000 miles later I took it in for its service and said could they also stamp the book from when I bought it, and the service guy said "we weren't asked to service it, so it just had a safety check for the warranty!

If that's the case, all it needs is tightening a little spot weld to fix it.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, after having the car for 2 weeks now I noticed a rattle from the exhaust. I spoke to the OPC the car was bought from and was told to go to my nearest OPC to get it sorted.
Took the car to my local (ish) OPC yesterday and left the car there. Had a chat with the nice girl on the service desk and told her I bought the car over the phone and would they mind giving it a quick check over, just to make sure everything was ok. "of course Mr Jones"..................
Had a phone call at 10am this morning only to be told that the car needs a whole new exhaust system (Porsche PSE system), new cigarette lighter (whole unit), new ignition coil and NEW DISCS AND PADS ALL ROUND
As you can imagine I was fuming! I phoned the selling OPC and spoke to the Sales Manager who wasn't really very helpful. When I originally bought the car I was told the exhaust had a small rattle but had been fixed and the brakes were, and I quote, "good for 12 months, plenty of mileage in them"!
I was really up for a fight come 3pm but my local OPC rang me to say the selling OPC had given the all clear to do the work at their expense 8)
The point of my rant is this, why would a Porsche dealer allow a £43k car leave its showroom in such a bad state!? I for one will NEVER buy a ca from them again, the brakes were apparently really bad and had been "skimmed" to improve them but it hadn't worked? All very fishy and a way to cut corners IMHO.
Anyway, thats my story, not been a good day but in the end, I think I ended up doing ok. Since ownership have had 4 new tyres, both rad's replaced, all discs and pads replaced and the other few things mentioned above. Its like a new motor now
Hi,
Are you 100% sure that the exhaust needs replacing? It is very unusual for the baffle to go on an 04 car, unless it has mega-low mileage and just sits in the garage all the time (eg. the water in the exhaust has corroded the baffle).
I know this because my local OPC said the same thing, complete new exhaust system based on the rattle.
Took it to Camtune who said, no it isn't, the exhaust tip is just loose.
So before the OPC do anything, check that the exhaust tip isn't slightly loose....you can do this by gently tapping each tip and seeing if you hear any movement (which will sound like a rattle).
If that's the case, all it needs is tightening a little spot weld to fix it.
I would be amazed if a 2004 car needed a new exhaust, so definitely worth checking.
OPC really take the p*.
If the OPC is prepared to fit a new PSE FOC, I'd keep very quiet about the Camtune story if I were you...
When I bought mine, the salesperson told me it would have a 24k service, MoT, and some paintwork that was needed... The paintwork was perfect, but I think they forgot the MoT as I had to wait in the showroom while it went to 'Fred in the Shed' for its test
Came back with a certificate, but the first time I drove it at night it was illuminating the owls in the top of the trees - on dipped beam!
Then 12,000 miles later I took it in for its service and said could they also stamp the book from when I bought it, and the service guy said "we weren't asked to service it, so it just had a safety check for the warranty!
") So it went about 19,000 miles without an oil-change!
To be honest mate, as its being done FOC, I'm not going to say anything. I trust what the OPC has told me and if I start questioning it and it turns out to be just the tipof the exhaust and in 4 months time the baffles do go, I will have to foot the bill myself because the PSE is not covered by the extended warranty. I'm not really willing to take that chance
The selling OPC did say there was an issue with the exhaust, but it was "apparently" sorted before delivery :?:
I'm glad a new system is being fitted, I would just worry all the time about it if the old had a "quick fix".
Its the brakes situation that really bugged me, I'm not buying an 6 year old M3 here from an indy, this is a very expensive (to me anyway) car and should be perfect from the start, especially from an OPC, not after various trips to different garages
As you bought it from the OPC (any trader) you have come back under the sales of goods act. If sold as with nothing wrong and there are problems soon after they are obliged to rectify the car or take it back and refund you. From an OPC it should be perfect anyway.
Not sure how long you have recourse under the act but 2 weeks is definitely within the period....hence the FOC. I wouldn't let your experience put me off buying from an OPC...the prices do that already

I had a 996 C4 from an OPC a few years back and if I had a quid for every time the disks and pads "allegedly" needed replacing - at my cost - then I'd be driving a gold plated 964 Turbo S right now.
Each time I popped into JZM for a second an opinion and was told politely that there was plenty of life in them and to stop worrying.
I think that OPCs play on your concerns about the brake systems and if there's the tiniest thing wrong recommend a replacement - I mean who wouldn't worry about their brakes? Just my opinion of course
To be honest, I would change the subject of your post to something more appropriate like: "started badly, ended up brilliantly!". Sounds like all parties involved have done the right thing. The selling OPC obviously should have done the right thing before you bought the car, but you caught it and its been fixed. Happy days, nice new brakes & PSE. :food:
