Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Have you checked the trans fluid?perhaps that's what was leaking?
Leading evidence: 'Check trans fluid?perhaps' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Replace last week and maybe it was not properly fitted

I saw a bit of coolant on the floor, but that could just be because I had a hose changed last week and maybe it was not properly fitted?

I can still shift the gears normally with the Tip selector and the engine sounds fine (oil pressure was there the whole time and ran the way it should).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Everyone,
Yesterday when I was parking in my underground parking it suddenly gradually lost torque, simply more rpms to make any speed. - I made it out from the parking, just about (no recovery vehicles can go inside an underground car parking).
Anyway, let me give you the symtoms and then you can maybe tell me if it will be expensive or very expensive (still waiting for the verdict from the Garage).
My car is a 2002 Tip with 65 Km's on the clock.
The problem came out of the blue, there has been no problems with the clutch or anything.
Basically when parking yesterday evening the gearbox or clutch sounded a bit metallic (but nothing major, I thought it was something with the exhaust at first).
And then there was less and less torque...and at some point nothing what so ever.
I can still shift the gears normally with the Tip selector and the engine sounds fine (oil pressure was there the whole time and ran the way it should).
I saw a bit of coolant on the floor, but that could just be because I had a hose changed last week and maybe it was not properly fitted?
Any wild guesses what it could be? Clutch, gearbox or something 3rd?
Nicolai
The verdict...
Hi Everyone,
So the gearbox is finished...or hallas as they say here in the UAE...
The gearbox cooler was leaking coolant into the gearbox and this made the gearbox fail, unfortunately beyond repair.
Luckily I got a replacement gearbox from a 30.000 Km car, which was totalled.
With fitting the bill runs up in around 1100 UKP, not too bad I think - The first price I got was around 5000 UKP, so makes it worth while to look around a bit.
Now I really hope it is the last serious problem I have seen on my 996.
The story with this car has not been too good, the previous owner had an engine rebuild done because one of the main bearings got pushed over the other causing a total engine failure of course.
Somehow I am not too certain that the 996 was build as good as other porsches who is known for being Duracell rabitts, which just keeps going and going if you treat them well...
Anyway, the car drives like a dream now so smiles are back , although the wallet is a bit lighter
