Since I've owned the car, the car chirps when I lock it with fob, but again, this random alarm set-off has never happened before.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Howdy, I'm hoping y'all can assuage my conscience/concerns here. An hour after parked in my garage after a ~45 min drive in my 2002 Carrera, the alarm started going off. Good thing I noticed......while waiting for my Uber to the airport to be out of town for *two weeks*. I've had the car for 5 years, and this is the first time this has ever happened. Here's the state of the car when it happened: Locked, in garage, garage door closed, no one has access to the garage except myself and my apt neighbor, who wasn't home at the time this happened. The alarm is OEM/stock. I had the driver's side door lock replaced three-ish months ago, have put ~300 miles on it since. Since I've owned the car, the car chirps when I lock it with fob, but again, this random alarm set-off has never happened before. Maybe it' a glitch, maybe there was an insect flying around in the locked car, maybe a loud car passed by and set it off...who knows. I won't try and diagnose this here. Here's what I did next: I unlocked the car via key fob, opened door, stuck key in ignition and turned to accessory to check battery - 12V - and then closed door and *left it unlocked*. As such, the red security on the dash was NOT blinking. Here's my question: Aside from glitches, will the 996.2 alarm go off/is it armed in any way when left unlocked (after door opened, so hopefully no auto re-lock) without the dash light blinking? I live in an apt complex, and REALLY don't want to be *that guy* who keeps the whole building awake. I hope I won't have to beg my local shop for a housecall to disconnect battery.... Thanks in advance for insight.

Get the car scanned with a Porsche specific scan tool (Durametric, PIWIS); the alarm system will store the reason last 10 "trips" in the system memory.
