Spoke to them today, the engine is on order and they'd expect the car to be repaired by early next week.
Leading evidence: 'Repair by early next week' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check has identified a worn front drop link' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Their health check has identified a worn front drop link and that the inner edges of the fronts have worn beyond legal limits.

I've not had the car very long at all and only last week was at the OPC talking about a date for the 111 point check, the plan was for that to happen next week.
Check whilst it's in and get the extended warranty sorted

I'm also going to get them to do a 111-point check whilst it's in and get the extended warranty sorted.

So the expectation is that this will be a FOC repair except for any sundries whatever they may be; I guess oil, etc?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A quick inspection from someone in the know has confirmed it's an intermediate shaft failure. :very sad:
I'm going to have the car transported up to an OPC on Monday for confirmation and the bad news. I've not had the car very long at all and only last week was at the OPC talking about a date for the 111 point check, the plan was for that to happen next week. So no warranty, talk about the worst possible timing.
The car is a 2004 model/reg, FPSH and 19k miles on the clock. Only recently had a major service. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, in which case I'd have put aside work commitments and sorted the warranty from day one.
Absolutely gutted, my only hope is that Porsche can offer some goodwill in respect of the replacement engine and labour for fitting it.
That doesn't sound good at all. I'm not sure it's the RMS, but I genuinely hope it's not too serious.
If you've got an OPC warranty, they'll collect the car for you and take to an OPC.
If not, I'm sure how far JZM are from you, but that would be a good start.
Isn't that the symptoms of the intermidate shaft seal?
- RMS seal failure results in drips - think this is more serious - don't drive her and get her booked in ASAP
Crikey, that is the worst possible luck! so sorry to read this. I really hope that Porsche propose a significant goodwill gesture, they should given the low mileage of your engine.
I know that these failures are relatively rare but I've read about too many of them, I note that the troublesome intermediate shaft has been engineered out of the latest engine.
Sorry to hear about this - but given the mileage of your car and FPSH I would expect Porsche to make a significant contribution to the cost (if not footing all of the bill). Is it being taken to the OPC where you were discussing the 111 point inspection last week?
Best of luck
Ouch!
I really do hope all is resolved without too much of a hit. Do keep us updated.
Porsche Reading is the HQ for the UK, unless your local OPC doesn't mention it, ask them to submit a "claim" on your behalf to the OPC highlighting the spec and service history of the car.
Thanks for all the support and advice, much appreciated!
The car was trailered to the OPC yesterday so I'm just waiting for the verdict. Had a trawl round the web for a bit more information and seen some evidence of Porsche goodwill, only hope that extends to my case.
Hopefully the fact that this is a 4 year old car, not long out of warranty, only 19k miles on the clock and a full Porsche service history will count for something. :?
I'll keep you updated.
The OPC rang me yesterday for permission to remove the engine. Later on they rang to confirm the diagnosis and without prompting that they'd look to process this as a goodwill repair. Was asked key questions about the history and servicing, etc.
Spoke to them today, the engine is on order and they'd expect the car to be repaired by early next week.

Their health check has identified a worn front drop link and that the inner edges of the fronts have worn beyond legal limits. They've price matched Blackcircles on the tyres so I'm going to have them complete the work.
Is the inner tyre wear normal for the C4S setup or is it worth getting a wheel alignment check? My last car (an Audi TT) exhibited the same issue.
I'm also going to get them to do a 111-point check whilst it's in and get the extended warranty sorted.
I'll reserve judgement until it's all sorted but so far I'm impressed by the way this has been handled, and of course massively relieved.
That's great news - I am now seriously thinking about getting a warranty on mine as your experience is v scary!
