Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've decided in the interim to save the 2K remedial work that OPC recommended (but wasn't necessary) together with three years warranty cost which gives me a fighting fund of nearly 5K should anything go wrong.

Other than Porsche itself, is anyone aware of where I can purchase a (recommended) warranty for a 911 (other than from OPC) which would allow me to use someone like JZT for my warranty work?

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a extended warranty on my car which I purchased from the garage I bought my car from. I have to say the warranty is very thorough and is at least as good as an OPC warranty and at £600 is very good value...only problem is.... the garage is 200 miles away from where I now live which aint convenient as I must use them for warranty work and servicing (all part of the deal).

I'd also be interested in anyone's thoughts on this one. just brought an 04 996 C4S which has just had major service at cambridge opc less 1k miles ago. would think they would have been over it with fine tooth comb at the time. do i need to buy a warranty?? if so who else aside from opc?? cheers
Only warranty worth having is the Porsche one
will your warranty pay £10,000 for a new engine if the intermediate shaft breaks?
Theres lots of warranties with a max pay out of £2000, and remmeber an OPC labour rate is £105 an hour some wont pay more than £30
And lots of OPC's wont invoice warranty co's for work
guess why?
The co's dont pay out
IMHO youd be stupid to drive a water cooled car without the porsche warranty
Got my C4S a month ago without a warranty and have been thinking about getting one, but always finding reasons not to.
However, the other day read this thread
http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=36711&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
(luckily the owner of the car in that thread appears to be getting a new engine FOC)
and this convinced me to get the OPC warranty just for piece of mind.

Mark, With early cars approaching 10 years, any views on any after market warranties that may provide 'some cover ?
My brother has a 99 C4 with almost 120,000 on the clock and it has been faultless for the last 6 years and 80,000 miles, it has a few regular issues early on but all solved under the dealer warranty, since then it has done everything that it was expected of it.
He renewed the OPC warranty just before it's 9th birthday so is good all the way till early 2009, but he was wondering what to do next year ?
I wish I had the answer
Its a very difficult one, even from my perspective, i'd like to do repeat business with customers I ve sold 996's to which are now out of warranty
Although i suspect I'll be trading them on to other parts of the trade
Theres so many stories of poor customer service from warranty co's that i wish i could recommend someone,
i was mail shotted by the RAC a few weeks ago and rang them
max claim limit £2000 on a £600 warranty
I'm told the AA warranty's offer a max claim of the value of the car but have not spoken to them
I'm sure some folk have mentioned on of the Northern indy dealers offering some kind of alternative warranty ? may have been Hartech ?
Always different to to understand if these are third party waranties (which is what is needed) or garage only warranties. So the likes of Warranties Direct ?
TBH, even with individual claim limits and hour rate limits, at least it would be something.
It is Hartech and from what I hear it's a well respected scheme but you must have the car serviced by them IIRC, check out their website for details. Harbour cars in Chichester use the AA Gold warranty on their sales but how good it is again I'm not 100%...
If it is a good warranty, then the 400 mile round trip is part of the equation.
Otherwise, I agree with other posters go Official Porsche Extended Warranty.
Regards Big Bob :bye:
It's actually a maintenance plan whereby you pay a fixed monthly amont (about the same as you'd pay to Porsche for an OPC warranty) but the difference is that you services are all covered with this payment (excluding parts). If anything needs doing (even an engine rebuild) then the labour is free. I would go for it in a minute if I was closer but a near 500 mile round trip for any work at current petrol prices make it a bit less easy a decision to make. I've decided in the interim to save the 2K remedial work that OPC recommended (but wasn't necessary) together with three years warranty cost which gives me a fighting fund of nearly 5K should anything go wrong.
