Yep, Nylon 66 ( Polyamide 66/PA 66 ) is very light weight/ very thermal resistant, strong ( especially when filled with glass), and inexpensive...and is used extensively in Automotive underhood items.
Leading evidence: 'Fill with glass), and inexpensive...and is' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check iat's' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This is interesting.. Now I wonder what the performance increases might be? I have reached out to Rennline and they will email me info on it soon they said. Unless

It definitely looks the business. But it could be a filter kit lubed with snake oil. Interested to see how the snorkel area adapts to the engine cover, since it wasn’t shown on the web site. Flow data would be nice. I know their carbon work is top notch.
It states better flow dynamics so I guess theyd have a metric to prove that. Think their new stuff is pretty cool especially since no one really makes things for our cars. Either its OEM + Astronomical in price or absolute crap.
it's a nice piece of kit as i have this on my car.. and yes
@TheChunkNorris
is correct as well as some type of performance gains should be expected for the intake..
I'd want to see a comparison of the MAF area to stock. Messing wth that zone can wreak havoc. And while it is an improvement over the stock 996 airbox in terms of looks, I don't know that it's $1500 better looking. I think the 997 airboxes look pretty good in there, don't mess with the MAF placement and airflow, and don't cost as much.
EDIT: Also if that's an oiled air filter I'm out.
That sure is pretty, but Carbon Fiber will conduct more heat from the hot air inside the engine compartment to the air inside the box than PA66 ( Nylon 66)..
Carbon Fiber conductivity 5-8 W/m*K
PA66 ( Nylon 66) conductivity .200-.260 W/m*K
This means at low speeds under 40mph or at idle in traffic, the Carbon Fiber one will show a hotter IAT than a PA66 one...
You can easily check your IAT's with a simple $20 dongle ( ELM327) and a free app for you phone..
You would be surprised at how fast one like that will cool off the IAT's once you get above 40mph, the factory box takes longer to cool off. There is a lot of ambient air going down into that area at road speeds directly on the air filter..
Yes yours looks good too !! The Rennline reminds me of a "K&N that is enclosed, made from Carbon Fibre" because of the snake like look to the tube..but it is purdy..

Carbon Fiber is extremely strong, light weight, very beautiful, but is not as thermally resistant, and is expensive..
I have a Savage .22 Auto in Nylon 66 . sweet little fun gun..
Where are you getting the 40mph number from? The reason why I ask is the FSI airbox is also all carbon and they actually do R&D and heat transfer seems like a gross oversight by alot of people/engineers.
The articulating spoiler used on the non-aero cars lowers at about 40mph. This decreases the air flow into the engine compartment greatly.. This is also one of the reasons I fixed mine to be extended at all times , besides I like the looks of it extended over the silhouette of it lowered...Just a personal preference..
I have had my car for 15 years and always leave my OBDLink dongle plugged so I can have all the OBD2 data displayed on my phone when driving so I can monitor all the data.
I have watched the time it takes for the IAT'S to go up at idle when at a red light and how long it takes to cool off after getting up to speed with both the factory air box and an open air box like the one shown above..
You can do this too for about $20 ....
I see. Let me ask you, isnt it conceivable for carbon to cool as quickly as it heats? Your calculation is based on a nylon box or the one of your creation you posted a while back. In the case of my particular car its a non factor because it currently has a ducktail and vented.
Well, the thing about heat transfer is that the heat always finds a way to go to a cooler area, but the cooler area never goes to a hotter area, it just heats up or finds a way to go to an even colder area..
That said, I love Carbon Fiber as much as the next guy, I'm just stating what I know...
the tl;dr from what I would eyeball from my mass transfer courses from forever ago would basically be that anything in that engine bay is eventually going to heatsoak to some steady state and it's really not going to matter to the final IAT much, esp at WOT.
What people should actually care about is the pressure drop end to end, how the filtering media compares to the huge panel that's in the OEM box, and probably most importantly, the overall length of the induction tract. This is a nice looking piece but I suspect there won't be much gain to be had here.
IAT's will vary from about 140F down to ambient temp.in a normal drive ..Ambient temp or 1-2* above when at speeds and about 140F stilling at a traffic light..( in Bama)
The difference is how long it takes to reach these high/low values between an open filter like the one EVOMM has, and an enclosed one like the Factory one..
You don't have to take my word for it, it is so easy to see for your self...
Point is, conductivity doesn't matter much when the overall mass is little and is heatsoaked easily, along with minimal surface area compared to what is flowing inside of it.
The difference is that on an enclosed air box the entire inside of the air box and the snorkel is the surface area in close proximity than can conduct the heat when heat soaked.
In an open air box like the one EVOMM has there is no surface area in close proximity to conduct heat ....so the ambient engine heat raises the IAT quickly, but also when moving at speed the outside ambient air goes straight into the filter and lowers quickly ....
Here is an IAT plot from a 90 degree day at Watkins. After the out lap (2:37) it dropped from 143 to 102, another lap and a half it got to about 95 where it stayed. This is a stock airbox.
This is the one I use for Android , you can leave it plugged in at all times. It has Automatic wake-up and connection + sleep mode

This is the basic OBD2 Dongle for frugal people that don't mind a little extra effort to plug in and unplug with each use ( cannot be left plugged in)

These little things are so handy to keep in the car just to pull up codes if the CEL comes on while on a trip also
Thank you. I ordered the one for iPhones.

would love to see some real world data and feedback with the design and MAF placement. Im supporting Rennline as they are supporting the 996 platform with some killer products!
if you look at the install instructions on the website is shows the MAF placement and also more the design of the intake.. I found that out when looking to see how they addressed the water intrusion.
If I havent gotten my car dyno'd by then I think I could convince the shop to let me do a before and after, this seems like an easy enough install that they will let me occupy it to swap it over.
That makes sense for water intrusion. I know the K&N intake has had some issues with MAF placement and the Rennline has a similar placement I dig the design and I hope the deign can combat heat soak issues too.
So any back to back dyno numbers on the Rennline carbon box?
You could just foil up the airbox to keep it cooler?
I did the 997.1 S airbox with resonator delete.
Filled in the bottom screen with carbon sheet.. I think I didn’t hurt power, just block off hot air... egh?
I need more induction noise!
So skip let ask as long as my car is moving I shouldn’t be hurting anything in my car
I never let my car idle longer then a red light and NYC traffic sparingly
I don’t track it but I do tend to drive it rapidly always 😎
I haven’t done any testing but I’ve never had an overheating issue SO FAR
