I have a 997 GT2 box with the GT slave, so I fitted the GT helper which made a massive difference as it was quite a heavy clutch.

I installed the heavy duty Sachs spring centered clutch assembly because the owner of Aasco recommended it to me.

I had a spring centered SPEC stage 2 or 3 clutch/pressure plate installed with an AASCO lwfw.

I had to get the clutch plate replaced due to contamination from an oil leak and the service from spec was superb.

The full face will be less grabby than a puk, which is why I chose it, as I'm running a street car.

Can't speak for what Spec clutch you need to run for big Turbo HP, but I can say that for us naturally aspirated 996 guys, I will gladly replace my Spec with another Spec someday when it goes.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone have any personal experience with Spec clutches in a tuned 996TT? Ive had great success with their stage 2+ in my 500hp BMW e90. I saw someone say they are NOT good in Porsches in a thread, but, there was no further info. Im wondering if anyone can shed some light as their prices are better than comparable Sachs. My car is currently stock, but Im planning upgrades to get me to about 600whp.
I have a modified n/a 996, not a turbo. I had a spring centered SPEC stage 2 or 3 clutch/pressure plate installed with an AASCO lwfw. It came apart in under 3,000 miles. I did no hard launches or track days. It was clearly a manufacturing issue. I have put over 30,000 miles on the spring centered high performance version of the Sachs clutch with no issues.
You posted on the 996 Forum not the 996 Turbo forum so many of us dont have a turbo. But i do have a 996.2 with a Spec SP902 clutch.
I have been running it since 2013 and it has been durable as he'll with 320 HP and alot of track time in the fastest run group. Never had a problem with it.
In fact, I just had my indy drop my engine 2 years ago to refresh all the key parts with the expectation that my clutch would need to be replaced. Interestingly, the 10 year old clutch was in great shape. So I didn't replace it.

Thanks for posting. I'm thinking about using the Sachs Performance version of the clutch disc and the pressure plate after my clutch failed in 22k miles. I haven't been able to find much info about the Sachs Performance after extensive searching on RL, so I'd love to hear more about them if you have info on how the performance feel compared to stock in driving. The thread I just started for my replacement is here --

Peter, if you happen to live in the area of Boise Idaho (I'm in the mountains, about an hour away), I would gladly let you try mine. I'm afraid that I can not give you a comparison. I rebuilt my car, after the previous owner had a dashboard fire. I removed the clutch pedal helper spring, before I ever drove the car. I installed the heavy duty Sachs spring centered clutch assembly because the owner of Aasco recommended it to me. It is his LWFW that I installed in my car. I don't do dragstrip style launches, but I do drive my car pretty hard. I bet my clutch will outlast me.
I had another car that I did open track events with (River City Shelby club). I put an engine in it with almost double the stock horsepower. The new stock clutch slipped when I launched hard. I put a clutch and pressure plate in it that was rated for the increased power. It felt no different, other than it didn't ever slip.. I would guess that comparison would also apply to the Porsche.
I have a full space ceremetallic stage 4 solid plate in my 4.0 turbo. It's good for just over 800lb/ft and I don't want to run more than that, car is easily capable of it.

The full face will be less grabby than a puk, which is why I chose it, as I'm running a street car. I've been told it's quite a sharp clutch, but I don't find it so as I'm still using a DMF. Make sure you use a sprung face if using a solid FW. It's also quite unlike my twin clutch in my escort which is noisy and aggressive.
I had a spec in a previous car and it felt stock, which is why I've gone back to them. I haven't driven this car much and it still needs final mapping so we will see how it holds up.
