Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

FWIW, the problem is often failed silvering on the reflector, I'm considering getting mine re-silvered.
Leading evidence: 'often failed silvering' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'often failed silvering' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install these' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The MOT rules changed not all that long ago, and generally speaking changing headlights to other than what was originally fitted to the car is now an automatic MOT failure for any post 1986 cars.

I run with Litronics as an upgrade but the reflector on the RH light is not too good.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I don't usually drive the 996 in the dark, but tonight I had to pick the wife up from the railway station and as we live reasonably rural, country road so the lighting is pretty poor. The Volvo was not available so I took the Porsche, bloody hell the lights are dismal (I hadn't realised how bad they are).
Upgrade needed I think, what's anybody else done to improve them? (mine are the "projector" type.
Hi Mike
hope all's well with you?
Refurbing the reflector bowl does sound like the best bang for buck option, but I've not heard any reports of anyone doing it. It looks like the company linked below offers a service for this. Have you found any others to consider?

I fitted these. They are quite literally like night and day compared to the original units.

As been said technically these upgraded headlights would be an MOT failure but the tester isn't allowed to dismantle the car and they look completely stock from the outside. So how could he confirm they weren't OEM.
I haven't had any issues so far with passing an MOT.
I also have these fitted, massive improvement. Perfect beam cut off and when the car was MOT'd at Porsche guildford before xmas there was no comment on them
I upgraded my 996.1 litronics (so already xenon) with these projectors and it's a significant upgrade, so would happily recommend if you're still on halogens. Visually identical to OEM so impossible to tell WRT MOTs.
Highly recommended, and makes the car so much more useable.
I run with Litronics as an upgrade but the reflector on the RH light is not too good. As they are not original so they don't have washers or levelling but apparently they were available as a dealer fit upgrade/option without the washers or levelling?!?!?
