OPC will always say no - they won’t even repair a minor tyre puncture, or fit seat frame recliners - but I’m sure someone somewhere will have the expertise to do it, and to a standard that doesn’t devalue the vehicle.

Suggestion
I would think that any 4 seat conversion would need to get the DVLA to change the V5 from 2 to 4 seats in order to make it road legal if the rear seats were occupied.

Hi All,
I understand there have been 2 cars in the UK that have already purchased conversion kits from Elfer Motors.
Anyone know one of the owners? I am looking to do this ASAP.
Thanks

It's a very cool thing to do!

I know where one of them - at least - has been converted.
PM me if you like. The specialist is converting 4 - at least - 991.2's to touring from winged, and one of those 4 is having the rear seats added.

I only thought this was possible for 997.1 gt3 after that model not possible to do legally? Something to do with type approval and insurance issues?
Also thinner (or single skin) floor pan in rear from 997.2 onwards?
This is from memory so not 100% sure.
I recently inquired to convert a 991.2 carrera T from 2 to 4 seats (like i did with a previously owned 996 gt3 mk2) and was told impossible. Missing seat hold pins etc. Plus obviously they are 2 seaters on V5.
Porsche Center said firm no, JZM said no and one other specialist who had 2 Carrera T for works, 1 with 2 seats and 1 with 4 seats also said no.
Looking at the German link, it looks possible but suspect very involved job and suspect very expensive too.
People quote V5 and Insurance as restrictions, but these are not an obstacle, work just needs to be done correctly and those parties notified.
The bigger considerations are cost and practicality.

I will admit to being a bit confused , reading this post you have all bought a 2 seater vehicle but have now decided you need 4 seats , umm didnt you just buy the wrong car and now want to hack it about in the face of everyone except some bloke in a shed saying no

Can you please recommend a new car with 6 speed transmission paired to a 9k rpm, NA, 500hp plus engine that has 4 seats?
Now that has been settled, it is not complicated to add back rear seats. Elfer sells the kit for 3k Euroes.

One of the setbacks with two extra seats in the back of the GT3 is that you cannot have the 918 fixed carbon backed seats (as they are fixed and don’t tilt forward). I think that would be a major drawback when buying a GT3 and I would seriously reconsider and go for a GTS instead. ( Apart from the fact that in most countries you can’t get insurance for a car where you have added extra seats ).

Settled ? , If Porsche thought that was a good idea wouldn't they just make one ? really dont understand why you would do this

I went with 18 ways on my touring. For me the LWBs are really hard on my lower back.
Insurance I have sorted already.

I really enjoy driving a manual, especially when paired to a high revving NA Engine.
My usage of the car goes up 3X if I can fit my boys in the back. So if it's £10k to achieve that, it's worth it.
Porsche don't offer rear seats because they already sell as many gt3s as they can make. Why invest more in R&D and crash tests etc?

Well if practical was on my list (which it isnt) Im pretty sure I wouldnt be looking at GT3 of any sort , sadly its academic anyway because I tried to buy a Cayman GT4RS and was very politely directed to the exit door so I dont meet the requirements

NFU added my 2GT3 rear seat conversion described as "Added bucket seats" and charged me £260,
I gave full details of TUV approved kit and included pictures so am pretty confident I'm well enough covered.

Thank you. Reason I ask is that Classicline (ERS) have refused cover if I were to proceed with adding back seats & belts to my 997.1 GT3, no reasons given, just 'computer says no'. So I'm shopping around for a new insurer come renewal.

Did you end up going ahead with this or has anyone else had it done?
Can you retrofit rear ISOFIX in the 992 GT3?

I'd be interested in this too. The only issue for the 992 is the buckets (assuming not gone comforts) are not foldable so would be a hassle getting little one in and out. A friend is considering rear seats for his S/T so I'll ask him to post too if he goes that way
These are guys to speak to but I don’t think isofix can be installed to rears. Should be able to do it to passenger comfort seats.
https://rpmtechnik.co.uk/blog/991-992-gt3-rear-sea...
What’s the difference between the elfer kit and rpm? I guess the elfer kit just supplies bracketry and no interior parts as there is a huge difference in price-the rpm conversion is north of £10k isn’t it?
By the way, I added rear seats to my commercial defender and the insurance company Admiral were no problem with it-just needed to speak to a human.

My understanding is that ISOFIX is only the fixing requirement for new born and toddler car seats and the group 1 seats we had would be way too big to fit in the back of a 992.
From 3 1/2 years up, isofix is there for convenience and to help position the seat correctly but it’s actually the seatbelt that does the restraining.
My thinking is, there seems little point in having ISOFIX in the rear of a 992 as if you need a Group 1 car seat it needs to go in the front anyway. (I caveat with I only have experience of the group 1 seats we had/have so perhaps there are much smaller options).
As a final point, I’ve used the isofix in the rear of my 992 and it’s so tight, it took me ages to remove (and hurt) as you can’t get your hand down the side.
More than that though, my concern with my seven year old in the rear is that once in his seat, he is so close to the seat in front that if anything happened he would face plant that seat. As a rule I only let the kids sit in the rear as a last resort.

Ugh. What are their requirements?
I would think that any 4 seat conversion would need to get the DVLA to change the V5 from 2 to 4 seats in order to make it road legal if the rear seats were occupied.
I guess this is possible, but would likely require a VOSA inspection to accompany DVLA V5 reclassification
Without this, there is a risk (especially in the case of an accident and passenger injury) the insurance company walks away from covering you.
There must be a 991 thread for this conversion also. Seems it’s doable and the paperwork can be sorted. I’m sure RPM would be happy to guide people through it. The car’s designed to be a 2+2 anyway.
If you’re talking about putting in a pop up roof and a kitchenette then yes, I’d start to get worried!
Anyone done this RPM retrofit recently and have any opinions on it?
Currently have a 992 GTS as sold my Huracan to have rear seats. Great car but missing the N/A powertrain and sound to be honest and I think my only (modern) option is to get a GT3 and retrofit the seats. Looking at a couple this weekend, both with 18 way sports seats so access will be fine.
I assume I can't OPC warrant it, so will have to do 3rd party...and need to speak to insurance company, but this must be viable if others have done it.
Cost to do it is immaterial when factored against the use it'll get, the modification can be discreetly reversed so unlikely to be a problem selling on through any channel...however a 4 seater GT3 could well be a longer term keeper given how unique and useable it would be.

Good relationship with your Porsche dealer, get a 992.2 GT3 Touring and select Rear Seat Option? Couldn’t be bothered with the cost of RPM retrofit and getting the V5 classification changed.
Unfortunately I'm not worthy. I've purchased plenty of Porsches, just not enough from one dealer...I'm OK with that, and will just have to be happy to buy lightly used at 30% less than a new one. Largely takes the sting out of the mod cost.

Wow, you don't hang about eh ! Very nice choice. The character of the GT3 is always a bit of a shock if you've not had the pleasure, it'll get under your skin in no time.
I totally get the rear seat thing, well worth it if needed, what better 4 seater can you buy
Bought this GT3 today...harsh little buggers aren't they! Felt like a race car compared to my GTS...or even most of anything I've had. But it's got that special feel that's different and bit more challenging that I've been hankering after for the 'fun' car since selling my Huracan.
https://finder.porsche.com/gb/en-GB/details/porsch...
I'm going to do one of the rear seat retrofits - it's between a basic GT3 Belts one at c. £4k, or the top end RPM one at £12k, but I'm going to see if my OPC can source the parts cheaper - very helpfully, RPM provided me with a parts list to see if I can. The cost breakdown is basically £2.5k for the TUV approved bracket, £2k of labour and £5.5k of Porsche parts...plus VAT.
Curious if this is going to be detrimental to the value of the car (if so, it's totally reversible) or will it be a good investment that I get back at some point. Doesn't really matter because ultimately I'm doing this so I can enjoy a GT3 with my kids. My hunch is there will be a market out there from people looking for just this solution without having to do it themselves, hence I'm leaning towards doing the proper RPM version.
Insurance was almost too easy - I'm with Admiral and I called them today to discuss. I went out of my way to explain this as 'a two seater car from the factory and I am doing an aftermarket MODIFICATION to add two rear seats, making a total of four seats'.
No problem Mr P, we can insure that as an interior modification.
'What about the fact it's a 2 seater on the V5?'
No problem Mr P, we don't need any paperwork.
'OK...are you sure, can you go away and check with the underwriter?'.
That she did, and came back giving the all OK - it's all recorded, she said as much. As I say, almost too easy but I'm not sure what other due diligence I could do...I was repeatedly explicit.
Admiral ROCK. They were also fantastic on a claim I made last year when someone swiped my Huracan's front bumper and cracked it in Italy (and drove off)...a c.£50k claim, happy for me to use Chartwells and it was a quick, simple claims process.
V5 process I assume is just a matter of informing the DVLA it's a four seater (like any other 'correction')...but as Admiral don't care about the paperwork, I'm not sure I even need to change it.
This is eminently doable. I know it's sacrilege to some, but I disagree...it suits my use case perfectly.
