Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

For minute I was like, crap, too late, I already paid for the C4S in full, maybe I should have replaced my C2 with a Boxster, or maybe I need to keep the C2 and sell the C4S before it gets here.
Leading evidence: 'Replace c2' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace c2' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

appoligies to C4S owners, these are my own opinions based on owning a C2 996 for 7 years, a Turbo 996 for 6 months and still having a Boxster bought in '02.
This is a great ad for a beautiful C4S - I get the feeling he might be in the ad business? Just guessing - some of his statements seem a little extreme.
http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/cto/2646377426.html
"and all the same engine/suspension/steering/all wheel drive/body/feel of the Turbo" - Obviously not the same engine
"The brake pads last nearly the life of the car."- I hope my car lasts longer than that!
"Automobile Magazine said the 996 engine is bulletproof and more reliable than any car's engine in the world" - I wonder which engine they were talking about and what they were basing this on...
That's the whole point of this thread - it was tongue in cheek - I was mocking how this guy seems to have made up a series of facts and "citations" to suit his ad!
I liked it Makes me want to go drive mine....I feel like I read a magazine atricle.
But "Faster engine" is not part of the C4S package last time I checked. It's actually slower becaus the car is heavier. Plus many of the things he quotes as "options" are actually standard on the 4S
Creative advertising today is to make things appear as they are not.
This guy did a good job.
still shaking my head..."The driving feel is like no other" the 4x4 truckiness handling without the Turbos power to make it come together
"The
engine sounds
and handling are inspiring" inspiring you to have it flatbedded to the dealer? And the handling inspiring you to sell it and get the Turbo so you will have power to match the heavy chassis?
"The high performance all wheel drive (60/40)" actually 95/5 starting out to a max of 70/30 @150mph
"The clutch is one of the smoothest " he means it lacks feel and is nearly impossible to actually determin the friction point
I really liked the carbon shift ****. It had a crack in it that you couldn't see but it was entertaining and like a toy for my fingers to massage while quickly going thru the gears in the canyons.
There's more...you can pick it out.

the award-winning stereo off during their 2003 C4S long term test
yea, thinking what a piece of crap, how did that win an award, wait maybe award for the worst radio in a production car
A guy who owns a Boxster mocking a C4S? LOL!
Seriously dude?
For your information, the C4S has been named by 3 Porsche magazines this year (two British and one U.S.) as the 996 that is likely to attain "classic" status by Porsche standards.
And, while there is a debate about how the AWD works, it is acknowledged by Porsche to be based on the Subaru design (the patents are referenced in Porsche's patents) - I've never hooked it up to any fancy equipment, but I have driven it in Alberta, Canada's "real winter" and it is definitely true AWD.
Anyway, peace dude!
I didn't read the ad. Too long. Just scanned it briefly.
Maybe if I read it, I'll have an opinion on his composing skills.
But when I'm on Craigslist, I'm usually not searching for literary excellence.
So pictures rule, imo.
I sold my Acura last week on Craigslist. It took all 5 minutes.
I briefly described the car in 1 paragraph. But I posted high quality photos.. about 30 of them using HTML code since [i m g ] your picture [ / i m g ] doesn't work on Craigslist.
Worked for me..
Phew! Thank you! For minute I was like, crap, too late, I already paid for the C4S in full, maybe I should have replaced my C2 with a Boxster, or maybe I need to keep the C2 and sell the C4S before it gets here. Feeling a little better now.
"Money," from Wish You Were Here, perhaps Ed?
In all seriousness, ad is not correct, is that correct? I own an '03 C4S with the same "options," except half of those options listed are standard with the 4S, yes?
"All the same engine/suspension/steering/all wheel drive/body/feel of the Turbo..."
Here I assume
feel
is the operative word, applying to
each
of those words, since as noted, the car does not have the same engine, suspension or steering as the turbo, although the AWD is at least correct.
"The award-winning stereo..."
The
WHAT?!
"High performance all wheel drive (60/40)..."
I don't know what "high-performance" AWD is (nor "low performance" since my Subaru performs just fine) but I thought the split was more like 80/20, or even less, unless you slipped.
"The clutch is one of the smoothest and longest lasting of all cars...."
Really? Don't most of them last about the same 30-45K miles?
"Huge calipers..."
That's what she said. I'm shocked he didn't mention the "racing red" of the caliper color that adds to the performance.
"Brake pads..."
Mentioned already; if someone can ship me life-long pads, I'd love them. Wife would too.
"JD Power had listed the 2003 911 as most reliable and highest customer satisfaction in the world..."
Unless your IMS failed; then, not so much.
"Many options and extras..."
Not according to that list, correct?
"Great gas mileage..."
Omitted the remainder of the sentence that reads, "...compared with a Hummer."
The book value on a 2003 C4S is not $44,000 having bought one earlier this year. His price is very high for a private sale. Heck, it's high for a dealer sale.
I wish him best of luck. He needs more pictures of the car.
This seller is the type who preys on the uninformed Porsche buyer. He'll find a sucker who thinks he got something really unique, only to find out later that he got a standard C4S. Not that that's a bad thing, but it's certainly not as special as this seller makes it seem. This ad is a good example of why buyers should do their homework.
Peter, "Money" is on "Dark Side of the Moon"
Perhaps "Welcome to the Machine" from "Wish You Were Here" would be more appropriate for this ad?
Since we're ripping this guy a new one because of his inaccurate facts I thought I'd help you with one of yours.

"the 4x4 truckiness handling without the Turbos power to make it come together"
"And the handling inspiring you to sell it and get the Turbo so you will have power to match the heavy chassis?"
Am I watching an episode of top gear or something?
Wow, lots of C4S haters in this thread! I'm glad I picked mine up in August! lol
Interesting note. I didn't know that. I do remember reading reviews in magazines (dating back to the '02-'04 era) stating the C4S might be the best deal of the 996es given that it delivers sufficient power for most enthusiasts plus the brakes and a nice blend of aesthetics off the Turbo.
I swear the IMS should be a part of Godwin's law (as adapted for the 996). Geez.
-Eric
To be honest, I've never even heard of such a thing as "C4S Haters" - it is a beautiful car that (along with the turbo) essentially predicted the
formsprache
of the 997 and 991 models with its "big butt" - not to mention it has the red centre reflector that harkens back nicely to the era of classic Porsche 911s. A Turbo is a nice car too, but it's a bit much to drive on a daily basis - and a lot more expensive to maintain (even if it doesn't have the IMS issues). Even when I eventually pick up my 997/991, it will be another C4S.
I'm not going to hate on any other members of the 996 generation family, but the C4S is an amazing car - and if you don't think that, you're probably just jealous.
