We'll be about 4000 miles into our road trip at that point, so obviously an oil change will be in order, but I also wanted a shop that could address any issues that may come up relative quickly.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Good morning all, we're planning a road trip this summer and the half way point will be in San Antonio. Does anyone here have a shop to recommend?
Thanks in advance!!
Phil
So far only an oil change. I was originally going to goto Koby motors in Houston, but I arrive in Houston on a Saturday evening. So it doesn't really work out. We originally had planned 1 night in San Antonio and 2 night in Houston to facilitate any maintenance, but my wife really wants to extend San Antonio and cut one night from Houston. All this coupled with arriving on a weekend makes me think she's right. Also, she's my wife, so she's right. In any case, I think it will have to be San Antonio if I need anything done. We'll be about 4000 miles into our road trip at that point, so obviously an oil change will be in order, but I also wanted a shop that could address any issues that may come up relative quickly.
Depending on when you'll be here in Houston, I may be able to help with/arranging oil change and repairs.
We could arrange to have repair parts readily available if something comes up during your drive.
If we're not able to assist you then San Antonio could be your backup. (this would maximize your time in SA)
Let me know which approximate dates.
BTW, I completely understand wanting to spend some extra time in San Antonio. (1 night is not enough)
We also have lots of cool stuff in Houston so plan an extra day or two the next time you come through.
Hi TexSquirrel, we were originally supposed to be in SA on 25 July, and then Houston on 26 and 27 July. We likely wouldn't have gotten into Houston until late on the 26th (Saturday evening).
Now our plans are San Antonio on the 25th (Friday) and 26th (Saturday). If all else fails, I can book in at the Porsche dealership. I see a place called
Jones' Autowerks in San Antonio. Not a lot of reviews, but the ones that are there are all positive.
Do you run a shop in Houston?
Best,
Phil
I have a huge parts supply and most things needed for maintaining and repairing Porsches, especially 9x6 and 9x7.
I also have a friend (also Rennlister and YouTuber) who has just opened a shop, and he often works on weekends.
I was going to see if he'd be available.
Hi @sasilverbullet I don't need any work right now. We'll be driving about 3500 miles over 15 days and wanted to be able to get the oil changed and have a reliable indy shop give the car a once over at our halfway point. We'll have another 3500 miles to get back home as well, so we want to make sure that the car is sorted. A lot can happen over 15 days and 3500 miles.
If you weren't here on my 40th anniversary, I'd say come by my house and we'll change it in my nice air conditioned garage!
For just an oil change you can also call Premier1, tell them I sent you. They are big sponsors for the local Porsche club.
Ive been using Les at SA European. He does work on Saturdays, though doesnt advertise it. Incredible mechanic, hard to get ahold of. If you do, you need to stress to him that it has to be done same day and get him to either commit or turn you away. Then call him again a few days before and remind him, haha.
Thanks for the recommendation and advise. My mechanic, who is also amazing, needs to be called a couple of times. Good mechanics are usually busy bending wrenches rather than sitting on the phone. As a customer, it was tough, but I made peace with it.
Curious if anyone has had any experience with TPWS in Austin? I'm in New Braunfels, so I'm always looking in both Austin and SA.
