Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I installed a brand new genuine oil pressure sender that wouldnt read above 4 bar of pressure. The next day I installed a second, brand new genuine sender and it worked better.

Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
Started the car after it was sitting for 6 hours. Started fine. First thing I do is look at oil pressure. 5 bar. great. started to drive out onto the street to only then notice the red oil pressure light.
No funny engine sounds
Oil pressure 5 bar and then as it warmed up the pressure came down to were I expected
Oil pressure moving up and down with revs in a linear fashion.
No smoke
plenty of oil
Car has new oil pressure switch (3,000km ago) and new oil pressure relief valve and spring (997 version).
Connected PIWIS - no errors other than brake light switch (which I cannot seem to get rid of even after a new switch).
Thoughts?
EDIT: After letting it sit for 30 minutes I started the car and the oil light instantly went out.
No help here, sorry. I never thought about it having a dummy light for oil pressure, given we have the gauge. Can PIWIS read the oil pressure, or look at current dummy light status? How do the dummy light and pressure gauge connect to the sensor? It would seem the gauge is a more direct connection where the dummy light is probably triggered through the computer. The fact you have no codes is another clue. Just not sure what to do with it. Given the gauge is behaving normally, there seems no risk to the engine.
There are 2 connections on the sending unit that is mounted on top of the 4-6 bank/right side of engine. One wire is for pressure, the other for the light. 2 switches in one, sort of speak. Your sending unit is the problem. Very common issue. Needs to be replaced.
I installed a brand new genuine oil pressure sender that wouldnt read above 4 bar of pressure.
The next day I installed a second, brand new genuine sender and it worked better. At cold-start idle, itd read 4.5 bar, but would reach 5 if I opened the throttle.
I havent confirmed my oil pressure using a separate tool, but I suspect my second sender may be slightly faulty.
I wouldnt be surprised if your new oil pressure sender is malfunctioning.
Yep, as Cape996 mentioned the oil pressure sender has two internal circuits....one for the warning light, and one for the pressure gauge..neither goes to the DME, both go to the instrument cluster ..
The warning light provides a ground to the cluster if under 8psi ..ungrounds if over 8psi
The pressure gauge provides a variable ground to the cluster from 0-to 180 ohms ...
The ground is provided by the engine block which is grounded by the ground cable to frame on the passenger side (USA)
If the warning light is ON yet the pressure is fine,, then either the sender is faulty or the wire from the cluster to sender is shorting to ground...
