Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Is the engine slow to respond through the whole rev range or just mid-range?You could try cleaning the MAF sensor as a quick first step.

Then if you don't do already, start using Shell V-Power, it contains lots of cleaning additives (plus its higher RON) so will help and continue to clean everything out.

Then, put a bottle of petrol system cleaner into the tank - I always use STP Ultra 5 in 1 - this will clean out all the fuel lines/filter and injectors etc.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
As above my 996 1998 C2 Manual has developed a weird sort of "lag" on the accelerator for a split second before charging on.
Its almost like a slow automatic in a car where there is a lag.. which is weird for a manual, any idea?
Clutch, Accelerator cable or something in the engine are my (very unscientific) thoughts!
Any ideas guys?
Best Edward
Gearbox out job to get to the release bearing.
At that point, its worth replacing quite few things whilst you/your mechanic is in there (e.g IMS, RMS, clutch, flywheel, pivot, bearing etc).
Any idea when the clutch was last replaced or if at all?
Most clutch kits come with a new bearing.
My guess is you mean you put your foot on the throttle and for a second nothing seems to happen ?
If so its engine related imho .
Hard to say what the fault is but a maf would be high on the list ...
For me i would need to see any fault codes or actual values of the sensors to have an idea as there are so many options atm .
I'm no mechanic, but but before you do anything major why not try the basics first, like has already been suggested - cleaning the MAF - this is an easy job as its connected to the airbox.
Get yourself a can of Wynns petrol EGR cleaner and spray this onto the MAF and then the rest into the butterfly valve itself. Read the instructions first and ideally have someone pressing lightly on the throttle pedal as you do this or the engine will stall.
Then, put a bottle of petrol system cleaner into the tank - I always use STP Ultra 5 in 1 - this will clean out all the fuel lines/filter and injectors etc.
It may be these don't cure your symptoms but its a good idea to do this anyway and cross it off the list.
Then if you don't do already, start using Shell V-Power, it contains lots of cleaning additives (plus its higher RON) so will help and continue to clean everything out. Presumably you don't do big miles in your 996 so its worth spending the extra and just using this regardless.
Have you checked/replaced throttle cable? Mine was slightly corroded which definitely affected the pedal and smooth acceleration. When greased up it has made a massive difference but I will be replacing it in the not too distant future as it's nearly 25 years old now.
