Allegedly the first owner had some cam shaft related problems (no proof of this though) which was repaired by Porsche but nothing to suggest any issues since.

Plenty of usual age related stuff replaced and plenty of refurbing/cleaning/modifying over the last 7 years but all in - the best 7 years ownership experience in my driving history.

Nipped out to the local Tesco the other night for some supplies and had to pull over on route for the obligatory milestone shot. Car was on 86k miles when I bought it 7 years ago in March 2014, so I've only covered a mere 64k miles in it. As far as I'm aware the only time the engine's been opened up is to have the IMS bearing dust shield removed (Dec 2015) and a new variocam solenoid on bank 1 (Jan 2019). No major failures apart from my diff munching my planet/sun gears back in April 2015. Plenty of usual age related stuff replaced and plenty of refurbing/cleaning/modifying over the last 7 years but all in - the best 7 years ownership experience in my driving history. Including everything (all parts & labour/tyres/oil analysis/etc.) bar tax,
insurance
& petrol I've spent in the region of £15k on top of the £10.5k I paid for it.
Good skills and just about the magical £2000 budget p/a for maintenance and light mods. Hope that you get another 50,000m out of her before any major work.

996 is a great car main issues he is now seeing is corrosion which
Is not a surprise for a car of this age. Most of the cars built at the same time
As our 996s are probably crushed into cubes by now
