Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I used a dremel cutting wheel and painted the exposed metal to keep it from rusting.
Leading evidence: 'Use dremel cutting wheel and painted the exposed metal' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use dremel cutting wheel and painted the exposed metal' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
I recently purchased a 996 turbo. It came with brand new pilot 4s! The only thing is that something is cutting into the tire back there. Suspension is stock. Wheels are the stock twisties. Tires are 295. I tired searching around and I found a thread referencing a metal piece in the back of the wheel well (of course I can't find it now) but it seems like that piece is the same on both sides of the car. Anyone got any ideas?
Take that tire off and look up inside the wheel well at where the bumper meets the car body. Right in the corner. That is where the useless little bracket is.
It almost looks like the tire may be bottoming against the fender lip causing the scoring on the tires, but you would have surely noticed that. In the off chance, how many miles are on that stock suspension?
Fwiw, from the picture, it looks like you may have a set of wheel spacers. If so, you can try removing them, or rolling the wheel fender, or consider increasing the negative camber, or do a combination of all of the above. Just make sure you get the proper size lugs if you remove the spacer.
I dont need that bracket? Its the only thing I could see that might be hitting it.
73k on the suspension.
I thought it might have spacers too but upon closer inspection I dont think so unless its somehow built into the rotor or Im blind/ dumb and there is actually a spacer.
The part of the bracket that sticks through the plastic fender liner serves no purpose. I cut mine off flush with the fender liner. I used a dremel cutting wheel and painted the exposed metal to keep it from rusting.
I took the fender liner out before I cut them.
Thanks all. Ill cut that thing off this weekend and see if it stops digging a new water channel in my tires. Still weird that its only happening on one side tho.
