Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

its not much of a job to do to replace the washer but it needs to be timed first so nothing goes wrong when removing tensioner, a local indy shouldn't charge you the earth for it doing, whereas opc may but who knows..

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car has a slight oil leak from a large 32mm AF hexagon nut on the near side of the engine sump, I presume this is the engine oil drain plug, can any one confirm this. Best regards Jim

POST 2Original post

do not remove this at all costs if you think it is a drain plug please... this nut has a spring on it or a small piston which pushes against the timing chain to keep it tensioned. timing needs to be in correct place to remove this or it may jump when removed..

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the info, I don't undo anything without knowing what it does, I thought the 996 had a cam belt ? Best regards Jim

POST 4Original post

nope its chain driven mate , it has an auxilary belt but no cambelt.. its not much of a job to do to replace the washer but it needs to be timed first so nothing goes wrong when removing tensioner, a local indy shouldn't charge you the earth for it doing, whereas opc may but who knows..

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for your assistance, I will get it sorted. Best regards Jim
