This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Rear tires for a 2001 996.1, have any put 285-30-18 instead of 265-35-18 on without any issues? I am looking for fuller look of the rear wheel well as well as to maintain optimum performance of the PSM.

POST 2Original post

What are your wheels sizes and what tire size are you running up front?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Currently have 225-40-18 on front and 265-35-18 on rear. I am buying new tires.

Are you running 8x18 and 10x18? If so, the spec is 225x40x18 and 285x30x18.

I think the rear could go either way. Tirerack suggests 265/35 for a 996.1 and 285/30 for a 996.2. My 996.1 has 18x10 rear and Ive always used 265. So it really depends on the differences between tire selection choice and sidewall height preference. edit: Also the 285/30 has a marginally smaller overall diameter, which theoretically improves acceleration. I dont know whether that improvement can actually be felt or observed.

Thats the correct size for a .2 The .1 rear tire size is 265/35-18 225/40-18 is the recommended front tire size for .1 and .2. Not sure why theres a difference for the rears

POST 7Original post

Out of curiosity, what's the 17 and 18 inch wheel sizes on the 996.1?

POST 8Original post

Im not sure about the 17s, but the 18s are 18x8.0 and 18x10.0

POST 9Original post

Interesting. Wonder why the rear factory is 265x35x18 on the 996.1. Is there a different PSM system?

POST 10Original post

I have no idea. My best guess is that Porsche wanted to add additional understeer.

POST 11Original post

The .1 18s have a 7.5" front, that's the difference.
