It was already repaired on some places, and wires were running behind it, but honestly was too much of a hassle to try and fix it as it looked really fragile.

I used Cartronix to replace the LED's on my 996 cluster about four years ago.

Suggestion

It does sound like you didn't have these lights on prior to replacing the cluster so that makes me wonder if it is compatible or perhaps a coding issue .

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am facing this issue with my 996.1 ! After removing the instrument cluster to change a blown bulb, i lost all the lights of the analogue part of the screen. Also lost the turn signals in screen. First the bulb was staying lit when using the turn signal and then it just stopped coming on! And also the needles started acting up now. Rev meter started acting up and then all the rest followed! From what i ve seen it looks like someone was there before and soldered some wires between some parts of the circuit board. I am not sure that this is salvageable or if I need a whole new cluster, is there any expert that can fix these?

POST 2Original post

After repeated disassembly of a test unit I found the flexible pcb on the connections between the two PCBs could crack. Easy to check with a multimeter. MC

Whilst i've never used them perhaps give these guys a call .. https://cartronix.co.uk/product/por...ent-cluster-panel-failing-speedometer-repair/

POST 4Original post

I used Cartronix to replace the LED's on my 996 cluster about four years ago. Great service.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for all the input guys, I noticed that there are a number of different part numbers for the Instruments for an early car. Is there any reason why they should not be interchangeable? 9966411050170C - 1997-1999 9966411050270C - 2000-2001 9966419802870C - it shows 2001-2001 car I believe mine should be the first one as it is a 98 car. I found the 9966419802870C somewhere and got it. Hopefully it will work as is, as it looks identical, except that is in aluminum.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Seems this was the issue on my original Cluster. It was already repaired on some places, and wires were running behind it, but honestly was too much of a hassle to try and fix it as it looked really fragile. I will try to sell it on Ebay for parts. Seems like the 9966419802870C works fine on my car, only issue is that the ABS and Brake fluid level lights are on now. Hopefully it will be normal warnings that would get sorted after i change my brake pads/sensors and fluid, than an issue between different versions of clusters. Only thing is now i am almost 90k kms lower than what the car has. uh:

POST 7Original post

Swapping out clusters is always a bit iffy .. i do it when trying to find a fault .. at times but there are often other issues that arise .. as i'm trying to fault find then it has never bothered me ... new cluster is something like £2.5K hence i like to be sure before condemning a unit . It does sound like you didn't have these lights on prior to replacing the cluster so that makes me wonder if it is compatible or perhaps a coding issue . With abs lights then im kinda leaning away from coding issues but i would suggest that you do the work you intend .. if you still have an issue then get the cluster coded to your vehicle spec . There are mobile " mileage correction services " you can use if you want to get the correct mileage .. a google search will find a local one to you .

POST 8Original post

Send it to me, I'll see if I can fix it for you. Nothing to lose. MC

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I am located in Cyprus so not so easy to find someone to sqap with or someone to fix it. I guess the same mileage correction services are the same people that can code the cluster to my spec? Using the EEPROM flash equipment? I saw this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUsMIETIVb0&t=24s and that looked really interesting/easy to do. I thought it should not be this easy to clock lower the kms on a car! MisterCorn i would happily send you the cluster but shipping from Cyprus would cost a bit! Thank you for the offer and I ll have it in mind! I may decide to do that or give it a friend of mine that comes back to UK often and send it when he gets there!

POST 10Original post

Aghhh ok i thought you were UK based as there are plenty of people here who can alter mileages but obviously i don't know in your country . Coding is done by anyone with a suitable tester .. basically a Piwis which is the porsche tester so independant garages .. they can't alter the mileage though as that's a different bit of equipment . But yes .. if you have the equipment .. a laptop with the correct software installed then it is that easy .. software which is in the instrument cluster can easily be changed .
