Suggestion

If the flush is necessary use the same oil so as not to mix chemistry or additives....anything you use that is of a lesser quality or cost, will have residual mix and lower the quality of the final oil ...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have just replaced worn Variocam tensioners and IMS bearing on my 2000 996 C4 with 77,400 miles (engine out). The tensioners were worn quite a bit but not missing any big chunks. The old IMS looked good so not loosing any metal bits. Also had the oil tested by Blackwell before the work and it was free of metal. My question is should I do an oil flush when I get the engine back in before I fill it with my regular Liqui Moly 5W-40/ filter? If so, what type of oil and procedure?

POST 2Original post

If you were not carefull with cleanliness or were working in a dirty environment while the engine was wide open then yes,a quick flush and fill would be good to do... Bit if you were very clean in your work and environment then no, it is not necessary... If the flush is necessary use the same oil so as not to mix chemistry or additives....anything you use that is of a lesser quality or cost, will have residual mix and lower the quality of the final oil ...
