Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Run across and clips at the sides' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run across and clips at the sides' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

do you have to first remove the sunroof panel to be able to remove the headlining panel?
One side of the headlining is loose, any ideas on the best way forward?
Workshop manual is here ..

You probably want body internal and external .
Off hand i would expect if you are removing the headlining you will need to remove the sunroof .. it's not that hard though .
Headlining has bars that run across and clips at the sides .. hard to say what the issue you have is without looking .. a picture perhaps ?
just trying to find out how difficult the job is before I start.
was hoping you could remove just the headlining in case I need to order parts but if the panel is easy to remove I could put it back again while I'm waiting for the parts to arrive
Can't remember the details now but I fixed a rattly sunroof/liner by dropping the main headliner from the rear to access. I can't remember whether I removed the sunroof liner but I definitely didn't remove the sunroof itself.
I have a sticky sunroof that I think is a gunked up worm gear thingy.
To remove the headlining you need to remove the trims from the pillars first.
Do this by pulling off the coat hook above the seat belt, remove the bracket, then pull the trim off.
This should allow access to the side. Hopefully they are just loose and you should be able to clip them back on
Can you put up a photo? If it's one side maybe a retaining clip has come loose.
I copied this from another site, but the pictures had long since gone. The support bar just behind the sunroof had come loose on mine, it was driving me crazy.
Not exactly what you want, but may help.
DIY: Fixing headliner rattles

This is a really easy job, and requires just a screwdriver and some strong double sided 3M sticky tape, or felt tape. Having panel removal tools makes it easier and can be safer to take off some of the panels but it's not required.
1. Start by removing the coat hook on the B pillar. It will just pop right off, and shouldn't require too much force.
2. Unscrew the phillips screw, that secures the top of the B-Pillar panel in place.
3. Remove the A-Pillar Panel, It should pop out as well.
4. Remove the C-Pillar panel partially. You don't need to remove the entire back towards the engine, just remove a few clips so that you can work with the headliner.
5. On each side of the headliner, with the panels removed you will see little hooks holding the stretched headliner. Carefully pop the headliner out of each of these hooks.
For the next portion of this, you'll have to climb into the back seats.
6. The rear portion of the headliner secures into place by a plastic panel with little hooks. Carefully pull on the rear end of the headliner out towards the rear window to release it. The panel looks like this under the headliner:
^ As you can see... the factory "tape" that appears to be there to keep the plastic from rattling doesn't hit all of the plastic parts sticking out. Must have been a Friday at the Porsche factory the day my car was built.
7. A little ways back from the sunroof, you will see a metal rod that clicks into place on each side, that keeps the headliner from sagging. Slide the rod back to remove through the slit on each side.
