Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I'm loathed to replace the rear tyre for a relatively short usage (which I guess would be about £400)...and don't want to put a second hand tyre on the car either.

Annoying, but not as expensive as running the car on illegal thread.

I noticed they were 7.5J on the fronts but the tyre size is exactly what I have on mine (I have the same set albeit 8J/10J).

My only option I've found is a refurb'd set for £2500 including VAT and new Michelin PS 2 wheels.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Having had little luck sourcing a pair of 8/10J Carrera wheels, I went for the slightly more expensive option at specialist breaker. My rear tyres are now on the wear indicators and I've just found out that the breaker doesn't have the wheels anymore!!!! My only option I've found is a refurb'd set for £2500 including VAT and new Michelin PS 2 wheels. Jasmine never have any in and keep offering replica's when I phone them up. Nothing on eBay. I'm loathed to replace the rear tyre for a relatively short usage (which I guess would be about £400)...and don't want to put a second hand tyre on the car either. Millions of split rims and Turbo II available for obvious reasons, but I've really set myself on a pair of 996 Carrera's. The only other alternative is a pair of 997 Carrera IIIs which I should be able to make fit with 7 and 15mm spacers (front/rear), but again, I'm not really comfortable fitting non-OEM spec wheels to the car. Is anyone aware of any Carrera's (GT3 or Techno also considered) for sale, or can give any other suggestions? Carnewel is about £2000-3000 for just the alloys and it's a similar price at the Porsche part specialists. I really need to swap the wheels over by Thursday. Cheers, GD!

POST 2Original post

GD - I think I know which wheels you are after. Are these any good for you? http://www.porsche968uk.co.uk/for-sale-carrera-wheels.htm (be quick on these tho!) or from the US: http://www.wheelenhancement.com/index.php?t=WheelDetail&id=43 ~ Maxie

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Maxie, Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, these are the ones. The 968 are 7.5", rather than 8" (I think that's why he's had trouble selling them) and I really need to pick up a set this week, as my tyres are on the wear indicators (ie. lower than the Porsche recommended spec). Cheers, GD

POST 4Original post

I noticed they were 7.5J on the fronts but the tyre size is exactly what I have on mine (I have the same set albeit 8J/10J). I am sure a spacer set for the fronts will keep you good. IIRC, the 17" wheel size for the 996's were 7.5J for the fronts. The ones on that guy's 968 had 996 part numbers on them. I mean come re-sale time, very few people are going to be fussed about this issue IMO. I say go for them if getting 8J/10J is becoming too much of a hassle. Besides, if he's struggling to sell, put in an offer! ~ Maxie

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Maxie, Yes, you're right. The 17 are 7.5 and the older 996 (pre facelift) also had 7.5 specification for the front 18" wheels. The part number (996.363.xxx) is different for the 7.5 (xxx=134) and the (xxx=136). I'm sure you're right that people wouldn't notice, but it would be something that would worry me. I appreciate that putting in a small spacer and wider wheel shouldn't make much difference. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get some tyres for £310 for the rear pair and just keep a regular look out. Annoying, but not as expensive as running the car on illegal thread. I keep referring to this great link, especially the posts from Stuart and PolarExpress: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=34835&start=10 Cheers, GD
