Suspected cause
Coupe is more 'focussed', probably a bit lighter and more rigid.
Leading evidence: 'bit lighter and more rigid' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'bit lighter and more rigid' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, still looking at what to buy and trying to decide between a tin or rag top
I like top down motoring but would like to understand whether I'm compromising heavily on handling compared to the tin top? :?
I've tried some searches and can't find the answer so any helpful advice / opinions much appreciated.
Thanks!
The cabrio gives an extra dimension in nice weather (fat chance). It also comes with a hard top for the winter months.
Styling- I leave it to you to decide, but I will say I love the profile of the rear windows, which you lose with the cabby.
Practicality- a little less room in the back of a cabrio, if that matters.
Coupe is more 'focussed', probably a bit lighter and more rigid.
Drive both, see which you prefer.
Robert,
I think you perhaps need to move as we have plenty of nice sunny days here in Guernsey for a bit of top down motoring 8)
I have driven both, although the cab was a tiptronic and pre-facelift and the tin top manual & post facelift... I'm finding it a bit difficult to separate what was the differences in handling due to the tin/rag top and due to the different spec of the two cars. Hmm
I'm a confirmed tin-top man myself, but having driven my car in Guernsey (with impossibly narrow lanes and very solid 'verges' and a 40 mph speed limit) I would actually probably choose the cabrio
torsional rigidity is completely irrelevant at those speeds, and the extra visibility could save a fortune in body repairs/
insurance
premiums! Also the weather is, as you say, a bit more favourable for topless motoring!
Unless you are a girl and look like a supermodel, go for the Coupe - it handles a ***** load better, and is lighter hence faster! OTherwise, you will look gay!
All above is of course IMHO

I love my Cabrio,
And living in Cornwall we get a fair few sunny days as well thankfully,
But it's equally at home elsewhere, such as unrestricted toll roads in West Germany
And just for the record, i'm not a homosexual hair dresser :boxer:
(But my boyfriend is) :friends:
Also, just inviting comments here, unless you track the car do you really notice any difference in rigidity on normal roads at roadspeeds, (whatever they are) ??
Surely with a good geometry set up, a front strut brace and a good set of tyres the cabrio will hold a corner more than adequately?? I believe mine does ??
Right you bunch of screaming queens (you're all protesting waaaaay too much for my liking) :hand:
Cab: far more useful, you can carry a full set of crimping irons and mobile hair drying hood between appointments and still feel the breeze in your Grecian 2000'd hair whilst eyeing the ladies/men/farmyard animals (delete according to preference). As for the handling, why would you worry about that. Its the same on both at 30 mph. Any faster and no-one can see you in your nice car sweetie.
Coupé: primarily for people who like their teeth shaken out. Drive it fast enough and you'll probably soil yourself as your control's not what it used to be is it? Faster round the ring than a cab. (insert pun here). Probably members of a cult in their spare time.
I think thats a fair and balanced review of the pro's and cons of cab vs coupé. I'm a cab man myself and i have all my own hair. Paid for and everything. :floor:
Some fair comments below, but I would add that it depends on you driving style. I personally can tell the diffrence pretty quickly, though I would categorise my driving style as "spirited".
To be completely honest, I am still cross with Porsche for making a cabriolet Turbo - They don't make a GT3 cab, so the GT3 owners take us even less seriously! LOL

I tell you what, you guys obviously don't understand driving on Guernsey lanes... the narrow lanes are a challenge and great fun to throw a car round at *ahem* legal speeds... anyway, France is only a stones throw away and driving on the wrong side of the road makes messing my perfectly styled hair up even more satisfying.
:floor:
I've owned both and i have to say that i'd never have another soft top, my reasons for this are- noise, also i feel the handling is better with a hard top and i found that people always think that soft top Porsche are girlie, i had the piss taken out of me no end with mine, now i just get 'nice car, glad to see you've got a mans one this time!'
Hard top all the way.
