Nearside was damaged but repaired properly as far I'm aware.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'd welcome thoughts and opinions on this car. Anyone have any knowledge of this specific example?
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...
Here you are. Most of the 40k miles its done have at 8/9/10ths on track - I'm not sure what this equates to in road mileage and when if at all GT3s which have competed in competition need engine refresh/rebuilds as a matter of routine. Same on gearbox I suppose. Its basically an RS that been transformed into a cup car and competed in Time Attack comp. Can't imagine there's a better track car out there if thats your bag.
http://www.parr-uk.co.uk/media/pdf/performance-rev...
It's been punted around by various dealers for the last 9 months at least IIRC.
As the owner of a heavily modified GT3 myself, I think that this one has been taken too far to attract very many people now. It's virtually a road-registered Cup car and will be very noisy & tiring to drive for any distance given its complete lack of interior trim. The value of it being a genuine RS has been completely debased by being stripped & modded to the extent it has been. As for claiming £80K to develop the car... When you actually strip out many of the costs for Parr checkovers, maintenance, pads, geos etc. what remains is actually not that big a parts spend. If all the original parts are still available to return it to standard then it might be a project for someone, but I still believe the money is far too strong for what it is.
It's always dangerous for future saleability to modify cars to this extent & I think this one is proof of that.
The advert itself is appalling its difficult to read and understand exactly what it is your buying.
I'd bet my house that if it was for sale in a nice showroom environment with a proper description/explanation of what it is, it would be snapped up.
SCOM had it for sale for quite a while (it featured in 'GT Purely Porsche' who appear to exist mainly to market SCOM stock) and then it's been for sale with a couple of small dealers who i don't know anything about. i guess there's not much 996 RS left in it now, but if it dips sub £50k then surely someone will look kindly upon it ?

Have to say I like the concept given that it would be a weekend and occasional track day car. Lack of refinement would potentially be a positive.
get some ear plugs and hang on with bum clenched when it tries to throw you off the road on cambers!
That car is in a new home now.
No interior is no hassle for noise at all IMHO. Its solid engine and trans mounts that add noticeably. Long journey, use earplugs. Simples

Sold you say fioran0?
Yes, sold. It was on Ebay auction last week. Auction ended at £41K'ish but didn't meet reserve. Received an email from the seller earlier advising that it had now been sold.

wow good luck to the new owner.
In five years time when the heat has died down , and the car has been cleaned up, it will be worth 100K +++ , no problem!!
It is one of only 682 cars and will always retain a very high exclusivety value !!
Used to be owned by Tim Chandler - used in Time Attack, etc. There's mention of his 996 GT3 RS here at para 5:
http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evolongtermtests/2...
"One reader, Tim Chandler, has stopped driving his 996 GT3 RS on the Ring and instead has an M3 GT very similar to mine. Why? Well, you only have to see the look on the face of someone who’s just bent their RS to understand."
Of course, he may have owned more than one 6RS.

He did, he owned the much modified red car discussed here, and a completely standard blue version.
I'd guess the completely standard blue was kept warm and dry in his garage though?

Ok, I've now figured out who the present owner of the blue car is.
I'm Spartacus.
The blue one is tucked up safe and warm in my garage for the past 8 years. It's a keeper and worth more than I paid for it, not that it matters. It's a mint car and just been treated to all the carbon bits and wheels refurb. Tim had the Parr stage 2 ego done on the car before I got it and the handling on the road and track is superb. Every drive is an event, the best drivers car I've owned.
Pocty.

Ok, then by a process of elimination, the 2008 Evo article must be about the red car. Sounds like it was crashed at the Nürburgring then 'developed' by Parr. 'Developed' must be a euphemism for 'repaired'.
That sounds like an awful lot of supposition.
The main premise is based on a single journo comment (and we all know they never fudge/embellish) as far as I can read but then made infinitely worse by having no details and no definition at all over the meaning of "bent" were it even to have occurred at all let alone to that car.
Hashtag face palm
My last post - not entirely serious . It's interesting anecdotal evidence about a car owned by that person. For all I know, he had 3 or 4 of them. Plainly, the word 'bent' means different things to different people. Could be a bent bumper. No big deal if so.

The quote does not at all imply that this particular car was damaged. It suggested that an RS owner might not want to track such a high value car in case he bends it.
I used to work for Tim and I can confirm it was NOT the red RS that had a small incident at the ring, In fact the incident wasn't on the track but on one of the local roads.

So the car was smashed?

Haha no just a lazy bar steward that hasn't read the whole thread. I'm just being nosey really.
If you owned an original panel 996 RS would you sell it ?

Would you even drive it? Imagine a shopping trolley bumping into it at Waitrose, PH paparazi in the car park with a camera and within a few posts the car would be tainted and un saleable at anything close to above what the owner originally paid for it. In fact, the owner may even have to make a loss

Ha I was thinking more about the limited numbers that remain un crashed that are considered 'investment grade' cars thinking about where these cars are in 5-10yrs

The blue and white RS he had was in an accident - repaired in Germany. He was leaving Nurburgring and someone piled into him on road outside. Nearside was damaged but repaired properly as far I'm aware. Paintwork on A pillar was pretty average - i remember seeing a few drip marks there.
P'Heads witch hunt-ery at its best.
"the red car was bent on the ring", then everyone else "ooh yes that would make sense, the red car".
Then "No, it was the blue car bent outside the ring". "Ooh yes, the blue car".
P'heads - Dishing the dirt on rare cars everywhere, and if there isn't any dirt, well I'm sure something can be arranged.

Blue car was bent. I worked with Tim. Red car was fine whilst Tim had it. Hardly dishing dirt lots of RS have had knocks - they're designed as track slags - not the end of the world. Jeez.
It was tongue in cheek IMI, but if you came to the thread late like I did and read it through there were a lot of ifs and buts going on.
I just find it amusing how quick people are to pull things to bits, that's all.

yes agreed. How many 2.7RS's have had a bash/paintwork but that don't stop people paying HUGE money for them and I guess over time it all becomes less relevant

I would get john Glynn to value it. Pcgb service is very slow and tends to be on low side.

Good call tks.
Have Spoken to Mannings today my insurer for an 'umbrella' cover for 3 cars but they will only quote singularly.

Does he charge for this valuation or can you not just go by what the market rate is currently + 10K?

I think it was £35. But if you get it back in a few working days and its higher than the pcgb valuation you are quids in imo
