Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So the battery totally died on my 1999 996 Sunday...I tried charging but no use. So I bought a replacement battery...installed it...the beast roars back to life...all gauges, etc. work fine... BUT the convertible top won't open. I can hear the top motor whir and click but...zip happens. It seems like the latch is not releasing off the windshield. I have not tried to manually release it yet as I thought there may be something that I need to reset after a totally dead battery... Suggestions?

POST 2Original post

It's probably just sticky, try to relieve a little bit of pressure on the front latch by grabbing the top and pulling it down toward the windshield, and then pressing the button to lower the top. If you can have an assistant help you out and pull down on both sides of the top while pressing the button even better! Let me know how it goes!
